DCRRC Burke Lake 12k. 10am. Nice warm weather and the trail had dried up significantly since thursday. Had been hoping it would stay wet. Went out easy on the road section (first half mile) just behind the current leader in the Snowball series in my age group. He knew I was there and presumably knew I had to beat him today to have a shot at winning the series. Had originally planned to mark him for the first half then make a move on the 2nd half. Not as effective if he is doing the same thing so went with the psyc move and sped up when we hit the trail and authoritatively passed him at the first muddy section. Hopefully he will be discouraged by my superior trail running ability. Also hope I do not fade to much in the 2nd half because I went out to fast. Then spent the rest of the race worrying about him catching me. About 20 seconds back at the turn around. Kept pushing the pace and finally snuck a peek back on a sharp turn. No where in sight, turned out that he had gotten a cramp and slowed considerably. I finished 3rd in M50-59 but more importantly first in M50-54.
1/2 mile splits from trail markers (not aligned with race start) (3:54), 3:38, 3:42, 3:41, 3:43, 3:46, 3:51, (1:55), 3:47, 3:47, 3:42, 3:52, 3:51, (4:01)

To tired to do the QOC meet at Happyland and after a nap to late to do it. Still went down for the Winter Meeting and potluck. Picked up 7 controls afterward. Broke a sweat, but only because I was wearing my sweat pants, not going into these woods in shorts and I did not bring my o pants with me. Mostly walked with some jogging on the trail and open section.
