run race (road race) 1:55:15 [4] 25.3 km (4:33 / km)

DCRRC 25k. Belle Haven VA. 9am. Parking problems so no time for warmup. No sentry at first turn so we ran long. Still tired from last week so ran conservatively. About 5 min slower than last year. Did not help myself in the snowball series standings; losing to all 3 of my main rivals.

Sunday Feb 24, 2002 #

run (warmup) 16:42 [2] 2.0 mi (8:21 / mi)

Warmup before 9:06 and cooldown after 7:36 the race. About 2 miles total.

run race (road race) 1:05:07 [5] 10.0 mi (6:31 / mi)

RRCA Club Challenge 10mi Columbia MD 8am, high 20s. Very hilly course. Figured I could run 65 but hoped to go 64. Could not hold the pace in the hills and faded just enough to miss the 65. Finished 73/371. 3 minutes faster than last year (when I ran a marathon the week before) Splits: 6:32 (caught in pack) 6:07, 6:24, 6:34, 6:36, 6:26, 13:08 (missed marker 7) 6:58, 6:21 The uphill in mile 9 hurt me again.
DCRRC had a stronger mens team than last year, but still only finished a close third thanks to a new team apparently put together just for this race. Among others, it had Mark Voit of SVO who ran a 57:50. Our womens team was weak so we were 4th in the combined.
