orienteering (blue) 1:39:05 [3] 8.9 km (11:08 / km)
spiked:12/17c

QOC. Local meet at Great Falls MD. 1pm. Hot, sunny and I was tired from yesterday. Mostly clean except for 11 min lost on 4th control. Started with a slow pace but picked it up some when Tom Strat passed me at 6. Picked it up a lot on the road run to 12 when the opportunity came to run down Pat Z. Found out afterwards she had run 1/2 mile more than I had yesterday as well as quite a bit faster.

run (dirt) 3:10:45 [3] 20.5 mi (9:18 / mi)
slept:5.0

DCRRC-SLR 7:10am. IwoJima , Cand O canal to mile 10 and back. Time does not include three 5 minute bathroom breaks. I think this may be my longest training run ever.
Not looking good for the Marine Marathon in less than 2 months. While only a training run; I was still a lot slower on the 2nd half than I wanted. Especially when I see that Pat Zerfas is doing 18+ miles at 8 minute pace.

bike (orienteering) 1:04:53 [2]
spiked:3/6c

QOC. Bike-O in Columbia MD. 3pm. Drank, ate, showered, changed, drank, packed dance clothes and bike then went to running store to get a free packet of Ultima (drink at Marine Marathon) and a new pair of running shoes. Then on to the bike-O. Got there late because shoe shopping had taken longer than expected. Only time to do the short course listed as 8 miles. My map has no scale so actual distance is unknown. Mostly rode at a relaxed pace. Great to be on the bike again, think I last rode last summer. I cannot ride and read the map at the same time so spent a lot of time stopping to check the map and made some errors when I did not stop to check. Course mostly on narrow ashpalt bike trails with lots of intersections. Think I might have done better on the long course which had more road options.
