QOC: Broad Creek Scout Camp. MD. Still lots of wet snow in the woods. After some initial screwups, I orienteered ok but without much speed. Legs heavy from yesterday.
Splits are posted.

Saturday Mar 8, 2003 #

DCRRC Burke Lake 12k 10am. Amost overslept and missed the race. Race shortened to 11.5k to skip a bad section of trail at the usual turnaround. Do not see how it could be much worse than the rest of the course. Trail was snow, ice, mud and some good running. Ran better than in recent weeks but nowhere near last years time. 47:27 a year ago for the full12k in ideal conditions.
This was the 7th of 8 races in the DCRRC snowball series. Currently in 2nd in M40-44 with no chance to move up and only a small chance of moving down. Last race is a 10k next saturday.

Cooldown on the roads after the race. Distance is a guess.

18 holes on the course at Burke Lake. Course almost all snow. Putted horribly and had trouble with wet disc slipping. Treating all holes as par 3, finished at 12 over; the same score as last year. Had 6 over last July.

Can I get in 7 hours for the week? Not going to get 30 miles since I am hurting from this morning and want to have something left for tomorrows orienteering.
At Capital Squares 2-4pm then Contra dancing in Reston 7:15-10:30 pm.

5:30pm. Fairfax Cross County Trail, Bryon Fields to Lake Accotink and back. Checking out the course for the SLR Fatass 50k on March 16. Wet, muddy and still has snow in places. 4 miles according to the cue sheets but seemed like more.

DCRRC Wed track work. Washington and Lee HS. 7pm. Temp in the 50s. 6x800m at 5k pace with 430m jog rest. Tried to run under 3min per 800. 2:57.0 (2:08) 2:59.9 (2:08) 3:02.5 (2:10) 2:55.7 (2:17) 3:01.8 (2:17) 3:00.5 (2:28)

Went square dancing afterward but not enough time to be worrth recording.
