Note

Now I am really sick. Cold has gotten much worse and a bad headache all day. My 4 primary headache causes all came together at once. Lack of sleep, dehydration, caffeine withdrawal and stuffy head from a cold.

orienteering (highlander) 7:08:17 [3] 26.3 km (16:17 / km)
slept:2.0 (sick)

Up at 2:30am to drive to Highlander. Met Eddie at White Flint and he drove most of the way. Good thing because I was not feeling so good. Have had a cold for a few days and today am congested and have a headache. Have done every thing wrong to prepare, no training, no sleep, no rest, and the wrong foods. Just hoping to finish in the 8 hours time limit.
Aspirin and decongestant, erg and a powerbar and I start the race from the back. Settle in a train being led by Peggy Dickison and stay there as long as I can. Manage to hang for 2 loops (15.4k) but cannot get out of the 3rd aide station fast enough and am dropped. I would have been dropped anyway since only small errors were keeping me in contact. Walked much of the rest of course except on the smoother portions. Constant threat of cramping. Steadily lost places until there was no one left to pass me. Still, it was not my worst Highlander ever. I did 7:30 in the rain at my first one. Ran the 10k XC before that one also.
Splits are posted, and eventually descriptions will be as well.
