run (road) 1:35:36 [2] 11.0 mi (8:41 / mi)

DCRRC SLR. 8am, 16F. Took some miscellaneous route around DC to the Capitol and back to stay on the cleared roads. Distance is approximate since it was not measured.

Square dancing (rounds) 45:00 [1]

At Eam PawPaws 2-5pm.

XC ski (classic) 55:06 [2] 3.33 mi (16:33 / mi)

Lake Accotink VA. 10am 24F. Since the parks close at dark I went in the morning before going to work. North side of the lake which I recall from last year had better snow. Hoping to find some tracks from previous skiers but no luck. Broke my way thru the icy crust on the way out (31:24) then followed my tracks on way back 23:42. Estimated total distance from pace on the section with mile markers.
Section down the middle of the trail has been packed solid by foot traffic. Looked to be runnable unlike all my sidewalk routes.

Square dancing (plus) 30:00 [1]

At Merry Notes. 8-10pm.

Square dancing (plus,rounds) 40:00 [1]

At B and B. 7-9:30pm.

Note

Both square dancing and the track workout were cancelled due to the snow. Went home, watched tv and did some reading for work.

XC ski (classic) 1:49:00 [2] 5.2 mi (20:58 / mi)

8:30pm, 28F. Felt warm after the colder temps of last week. Wanted to get out while the snow was still good. If 5" of snow then icy crust then 1" of new snow is good. Still, any time I can ski from my front door is good. Did my old bike path loop (3.4mi) from several years ago. Unfortunately the good part thru the woods is over a mile away along the roads. Some unbroken crusty snow, some crud thrown out by the plows and everything in between. After taking the trouble to break a trail, I did the nice part thru the woods twice (23 min the first time, 20 the second) and also added on a side extension where I could follow some ski tracks left by someone else the day before.
Not much speed, but I am not much of a skier and as usual seemed to have the wrong wax and have a tough time on the uphills. Arms got a pretty good workout.

Note

Headache most of the day. Had hoped to get out the XC skis since dancing was cancelled but not feeling that great and the freezing drizzle was enough to keep me in. More of the same expected tomorrow but I will try and get out anyway if the snow holds up.

track (warmup) 18:55 [1] 2.36 km (8:01 / km)
slept:12.0

Warmup before track events. 600m RW 5:10, 1760m jog 13:45.
12 hours sleep because the headache yesterday never went away. Went to bed at 6pm.

track (indoor) 22:55 [4] 4.61 km (4:58 / km)

Indoor track meet. TJ VA. 7:50am 3k racewalk 16:47, 9:30am 1mile 6:08. Felt ok during the walk (1rst) but had nothing in the mile (11th in masters heat).

orienteering (blue) 1:56:12 [3] 8.95 km (12:59 / km)
spiked:23/26c

QOC: Riverbend VA. ~20F, 1pm. Tired from running earlier. Was going to just do Red but Blue course was Red and Brown combined and I felt ok at the exchange. Died soon after and walked a lot of the last legs. No problems with the orienteering, just very slow. Can only think of one significant mistake (where Nadim passed me). Hands did not warm up until 5th leg. The epunch and thumb compass cut off circulation to the fingers they are on. Comfortable in the middle but started to get cold near the end when I stopped running.
Splits are posted.
