orienteering race (red) 1:40:58 [3] *** 7.19 km (14:03 / km) +270m 11:49 / km
spiked:14/17c weight:180lbs shoes: Integrator06 studs

QOC: Mekeldin, Red course. Headache in the morning so slept in and did not go to the race until late. Dropped down to Red since I was tired from yesterday and it was late.
Ran (and walked) cautiously and tried to keep a good pace and navigate clean and avoid the bad route choices that often occur when I run here. Probably made the worst choice right from the start when I elected to go straight and up and down thru the climb instead of the road around. Any energy I might have had was used up there. Was in 2nd at control 14 but then got careless and missed 15 to lose 8 minutes and a bunch of places. Splits have been posted.

Played disc golf with Ted and Dave O afterwards. At least that practice is showing some results. Ted still won but 1/2 way around I was still close. Playing every hole as par 4, I finished 18 over. Ted around 11 over, Dave over 25.

orienteering race (sprint) 24:09 [4] *** 2.92 km (8:16 / km) +40m 7:44 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: Integrator06 studs

DVOA: Norristown Sprints: (Kievesque) Some heavy traffic and poor route planning got me to the meet an hour later than I had intended so I skipped any warmup beyond the run to the restroom and back. Tried to run hard but I was hurting by the 3rd control and had to run at a more controlled "sprint". Biggest navigation problem was I could not read the course printing while running hard so could not plan ahead without slowing down. Constantly losing my place when trying to find the next control. Think I might have done better without the map case and the glare. Definitely long overdue for getting my eyes checked and new glasses. Disappointed when I finished because I thought the leaders had done 15 min, but looking at the results now I see the 15 was on the other course, they were over 20 on this one. Thought I had lost time on 5 when I could not find the fence crossings on the map so just ran along the fence until I found one. Surprised to see I had the 2nd best split on 5 even though I ran thru the parking lot and took the trails by 6 and doglegged from there. More surprised to see I was actually in 2nd overall at # 7. It did not last as for some unknown reason I chose to go high to 8 and lost 90s finishing in the pack at 7th.

orienteering race (sprint) 20:54 [4] *** 3.05 km (6:51 / km) +30m 6:32 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: Integrator06 studs

DVOA: Norristown Sprints (BTTW) Having already run and died while doing 24 min on the first sprint, I was not very optimistic about the 2nd one. Because I was so late, there wasn't time for a proper rest. Downloaded, drank some water, waited for the start to be rehung and then went out again with only a few minutes rest.
No sprint off the line this time, but got lucky on the first control when I saw the right way around the wall without hesitating. Tied for first on that leg. Rest was uneventful, just slow particularly in the grassy areas around 6-9. Some training would have been beneficial, but I usually orienteer well in this type of urban sprint so figured it would be worth the trip. Finished 7th again so mostly satisfied with my performance.
Also stopped in at Bryn Mawr on the way home to drop off some stuff and see how Iolanthe was doing after a week of college.

walk 20:00 [1] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Avia

Dancing ended last night but our flight home was not until 3:50pm so had time to kill. Walked with Bev along the river.
Rest of the day was mostly wasted as Little Rock shuts down for Labor Day, we had no car, and our flight was delayed 90 minutes. Back to BWI around 9pm.

To much eating and not enough running last week. Apparently a lot of water retention as well as I weighed 10 lbs more this evening than I did the tuesday that we left. Not an official weight yet since that is taken in the morning.
