Sunday Jan 27

Event: QOC: Lake Fairfax

run warm up/down (road, grass) 11:35 [1]1.5 km (7:43 / km)
shoes: Integrator06 studs
Warmup running to the remote start of the advanced sprint 2. 5:35
Also the run back afterward which was just a bother since it just tired me out more for the 2nd sprint. Don't have the map here so guessing on the distance. Not that sure of the time either since I forgot to stop the watch on the way back.
orienteering race (sprint) 34:33 [4]*** 3 km (11:31 / km)
shoes: Integrator06 studs
QOC: Lake Fairfax, Advanced Sprint 2. Did the 2nd sprint first so I could use the run to the remote start as a warmup. I was warmed up, I was also tired, and I forget my compass and did not feel like running back to get it so ran without it. Started ok, but managed to get both feet wet crossing the creek on the way to 1. Feeling good by 2 but then got a little offline on the way to 3 and ended up one ridge short. Eventually figured it out and got to the correct one but still had trouble finding the control since I was unsure where I was on the ridge. Another bad non-bearing on the way to 4 before settling down. Rest was uneventful but not that fast. The time lost on 3 messed up any chances of good sprint ranking points.
orienteering race (sprint) 25:31 [4]*** 2.9 km (8:48 / km)
shoes: Integrator06 studs
QOC: Lake Fairfax, Advanced Sprint 1. After jogging back and downloading went out on the 2nd sprint without resting. I did stop to pick up my compass this time. First downhill was nice but the uphill that immediately followed it showed how tired I was. Blew 3 again. Slow getting there and then had trouble determining where I was. I could see 4 and was getting ready go there first and then find 3 when I saw it. Ran hard on the short legs 4 and 5 to see I could win a split. Came up 2 seconds short each time. Rest uneventful except for dropping to low on the way to 10 and having to run back uphill. Time seemed ok but still back from the leaders; I'll say it was because they did #1 first and were fresher.

I had not planned to run the beginner sprint so had not allowed time for it. Tempted when I heard it would give sprint ranking points also but I already had plans to continue house shopping with Bev so skipped it and the pot luck meeting.

Adv Sprint 1 - Splits

Adv Sprint 2 - Splits

Saturday Jan 26

Square dancing (Rounds, plus) 30:00 [1]
shoes: Blair - Botany 500
At Belair Square Cats. 7:30-10pm.
No running today even though the weather was nice. Finally went out and started looking at houses. Have been planning to move when the market settled down and now seems to be the time.

Friday Jan 25

Square dancing (rounds, plus) 30:00 [1]
weight:181lbs shoes: Blair - Botany 500
At Merry Notes. 7:30-10pm.
Official weight this morning is finally back down to 181 so I will record it. For some reason I never managed to get an official weight (wrong time, wrong clothes) while it was higher. :)

Thursday Jan 24

run (trail, road) 38:41 [1]4.5 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Avia
Burke Lake 3pm. 37F. Clockwise loop seems colder than the CCW loop of yesterday, probably because the wind is in my face crossing the dam. (5:13), 9:24, 8:09, 8:14, (7:41) Someday I am going to go over this course with my measuring wheel and select a new starting point so that the first and last splits are 1/2 mile and 1 mile instead of a long 1/2 and a short mile. I just use the start point that DCRRC uses for their 4.5 mile race each spring.
disc golf (practice) 6:00 [1]0.29 km (20:50 / km)
shoes: Avia
First 6 holes of the Burke Lake course. Used just a 176g Shark. A routine 1 under with no bogeys. Not carrying the putter should have made little difference; only one shot could be called a putt. (& I missed it) the rest were all under 6 feet or required hyzer shots around trees.
From the score card: first 6 holes from the rec. tees 944 ft. or about 288m.

There was a notice up about a doubles competition at Burke Lake Feb 10. Might be interesting to go and watch or try but I found out today I may have to go to Fort Knox that afternoon.

Wednesday Jan 23

Square dancing (mainstream) 30:00 [1]
shoes: Blair - Botany 500
At Boomerangs. 7:30-9:30.

Tuesday Jan 22

run (trail, road) 43:27 [1]4.5 mi (9:39 / mi)
shoes: Avia
Burke Lake 2:30pm. (9:45), 10:14, 9:34, 9:03, (4:51) Supposed to be another wintery mix day with snow, sleet, freezing rain. Instead there was nothing and it was nice outside in the mid - high 30s.
No disc golf today. I took the discs out of the car while carrying Io's stuff back to school last weekend and forgot to put them back.

Monday Jan 21

Square dancing (rounds) 30:00 [1]
shoes: Blair - Botany 500
At Rounds By George. 7:30-9:30.
