RRC 10 Mile Challange. Howard Community College. Columbia MD 8am. I dislike these 8am starts in winter. Have to get up at 6 to get there in time to warm up and it is difficult to judge the temperature before the sun has had a chance to warm things.
DCRRC sent a team but not a very strong one as it looked like I might be a scoring member (top 12 men score) Howard County and Fall Road had their normal strong teams. Montgomery County sent a weak (for them) team but their depth can easily beat us.
As usual my recent training deficit did not suggest a good run on this hilly course. Planned to go out at 7 min pace and try for 70 but expected to fade and finish 72-74. Out a bit fast but hard to be sure since the course is uncertified and at least one of mile markers is way off so how can you trust the others. Hills also made it hard to keep an even pace. 6:34, 13:28, 7:11, 6:46,[34:00 at 5mi] 14:42, 7:51, 8:57, 6:04 Never really felt comfortable and was slowing by the 1/2 way point. Lost places steadily and finished well back in 188 (544 finishers)
Saw Pat Zerfas before the race. She was using it as a training run, planning to do around 70. She passed at around mile 7 just before my average pace went over 7.
In the team results DCRRC did not do so well finishing 6th. Beside HCS, FR, MCRRC, we were also beaten by RASAC and Baltimore. We usually beat Baltimore.
I did manage to beat both PG and PBrickers times from the Amherst 10mi but there was no snow or mud on my course so their race might have been a bit harder.

Warmup before the race. Just enough to get a feel for the temperature and then head off to the restroom line.

Would have liked to go to Prince William for QOC orienteering but a long drive and I would have been to tired to do much so skipped it and spent the afternoon with Bev.
Walked one loop of Fort Hunt.
