run race (road) 21:02 [4] 5.0 km (4:12 / km)
weight:178lbs shoes: Addidas

Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9-11 Memorial 5k Run. 6pm. Rain all day from Tropical Storm Hanna but stopped around 5pm so race was dry. Still very humid and there were gusty winds to slow us down. Teamed with Jon Torrance, Andy Britton, and Tom Nolan on a Quantico Orienteering Club team. Thanks to Jon's 3rd place 17:27 and Andy's 19:50 we finished 3nd of all teams and 1st in the running club category. (Beaten by an FBI team 57:44, and Prince William County Fire/Rescue 58:03, We were 58:18.) I had hoped to go faster in around 20:30 but had been sick last weekend and done no training. Faded in the last mile and I think the head winds slowed everyone down. Finished 120/2012 finishers and 23/276 in M40-49. Even with 2000 runners I still ended up running with the same people I have raced all summer in the DCRRC races. Losing to Bill Stahr yet again, but only by 1 second this time; and holding off Jay Wind in the kick.

run warm up/down (road) 20:19 [1] 2.14 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: Addidas

Warmup before the race. From parking to registration and back to car to drop off tee shirt then the last mile loop around the Pentagon parking.

Square dancing (plus, rounds) 40:00 [1]
shoes: Blair - Botany 500

After cooling down and grabbing some of the post race food of pizza and burgers, rushed over to Lincolnia for square dancing. National caller Mike Sikorsky was in town and it was the debut of a new local round dance cuer. 7:30-10pm

other (mowing) 25:00 [1]

Thought it was going to rain from Hanna this afternoon and evening so cut the front grass this morning before going to work. Rain now predicted for later tonight and tomorrow.

run (road) 18:11 [1] 2.0 mi (9:05 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid Shadow

Short run to loosen up for 5k race tomorrow. Hope Jon, Andy, and Tom are ready to run well, I am not anticipating much from myself after a week of inactivitiy and still getting over a cold.

disc golf 12:00 [1] 0.58 mi (20:42 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid Shadow

First 6 holes at Burke Lake twice. 1 over, and even. Actually threw worse than the scores indicate missing all the midrange putts.

bike (road) 38:00 [3]
shoes: other

Bike from home to car dealer to pick up the car. Thighs still burning at the start but at least this time I was moving at a good clip. Jarred the watch some time during the ride so all I know is that it took over 10 minutes. 9.4 miles but I had to walk the last quarter mile. Flying down the last hill that had given me so much trouble going the other way last week, I hit something with the front wheel and got a flat. Not worth fixing since I was so close, plus I have not checked the repair kit I carry on the bike for many years. (probably not since my last triathalon in 1992). Glue is probably all dried up

Need to get new bike shoes. Wore my Supergo touring shoes but they are falling apart. Might be time to get new pedals too and get rid of the toe clips.

walk (road) 56:00 [1] 3.1 mi (18:04 / mi)
shoes: Avia

Another day without a car. Should get it back this evening. Had to go to the dentist in Rosslyn. 90 minutes and $5 to get there and 100 min and $5 to get home. Would have been cheaper on way home if I had remembered my transfer. Took longer because morning service is mostly into the city.
Anyway there was 30 minutes of walking involved getting to and from the bus stop, plus another 26 walking in to work.

All this for a dental appointment that lasted less than 1/2 hour.

I was wrong about the car too. Called at 4:30 and it will not be ready until tomorrow.

Note

I got the 3000th hit on my log today, showing that I am 3/71.6 as popular as PG.

Perhaps I need to make my log more interesting by talking about small rodents. Yesterday when I returned to work I found a mouse had moved in while I was away for a week. I found some nibbled candy in my desk drawer and and a full search turned up some shredded napkins and then the mouse. He ran to another office and we cornered him in an empty desk drawer but we had no capture plan and he escaped behind the desk and then under the door to another office where he presumably passed the day.
Today I checked my desk when I got in and he has been back. The only candy that was not thrown or packed away was nibbled. No sighting of the mouse itself. He seems to have a sweet tooth; going for orange creme Herseys kisses and passionfruit Mounds over the weekend and Starburst yesterday. I left a Starburst out for him tonight. Hopefully he will be satisfied with that and not have to root through my desk looking to see what I have missed packing away.

walk (road) 58:00 [1] 3.2 mi (18:07 / mi)
shoes: Avia

Car still in the shop so walked to work. Would have been nicer except that I had taken my work computer home and had to carry it in with me.
Since I know I will have to walk home as well, I am including it now even though I have not done it yet.

Note

Feeling much better today after a horrible night. Flew home from Nashville.

run (road) 19:19 [1] 1.93 mi (10:01 / mi)
(sick) shoes: Avia

Feeling worse today, but the run helped again. Shorter today since I started later so it was hotter. Out and back along the road from the hotel.

Square dancing (rounds, plus) 1:00:00 [1]
(sick) shoes: Blair - Botany 500

SSDUSA Nashville: Less dancing today since I felt pretty bad. Tried a Slow Twostep teach but the time slot was not big enough so it was too rushed for us to get much out of it. Did a nice hour of Jive, some squares, then some napping and dinner. I only lasted 1/2 hour in the evening session when the dance hall was too hot and stuffy. Off to bed early.
