other (mowing) 20:00 [1]

Cut the front yard. Also getting a bit of arm exercise every day. I am aerating the yard by hand using a brace and bit. About 15-30 minutes each day. Not very strenuous but works up a good sweat since I only do it in the early morning or at night when the humidity is high.

Square dancing (hex) 30:00 [1]
shoes: Blair - Botany 500

Spent the morning with Bev at the Burke Craft Fair. Very hot and humid but a bunch of interesting stuff to look at.

Then off to Capitol Square practice. 2:30-4:30pm. Mostly hex work along with some normal squares. Next performance is in October at the Richmond Fall Festival in Williamsburg.

racewalk (road) 22:17 [2] 2.0 mi (11:08 / mi)
shoes: Walmart - Carson

Checking the upcoming race schedule, I noticed that the first Potomac Valley TC hour walk is this Sunday. Will probably do it and then train some more for the 3rd one in mid October. Can't do a racewalk without a bit of training or I will kill my shins so did a bit of training today.
On the roads at Burke Lake.

Yesterdays report of poison ivy was apparently premature. Indications are a bad attack of chiggers. Several people from the Bowie meet had similar problems.

disc golf 6:00 [1]
shoes: Walmart - Carson

First 6 holes at Burke Lake. Used the Cobra again but had little success. Kept putting the drives into the trees instead of the fairway. +2.

Square dancing (mainstream) 30:00 [0]
shoes: Blair - Botany 500

At Boomerangs 7:30-9:30pm. Start of another sessions of classes. Class I am coordinator for is now at the Mainstream level, having completed the Basic level calls last week.

disc golf 6:00 [1] 0.29 km (20:41 / km)
weight:180lbs shoes: Avia

Follow up on the mouse report of last week. He continued to visit my desk nightly in spite of the removal of all the candy and food. Over the weekend he shredded some napkins and started a new nest in my desk drawer. Exterminator put a bunch of glue traps all over the office Monday and I put a "Mice Cube" trap I got from Walmart in my desk drawer and baited it with peanut butter. Mouse was in the cube when I came in this morning. Now he is in a better place.
I took him to Burke Lake and released him on the edge of a field. Now he can go swimming in the lake and watch the little train go by.

While I was there I also did 6 holes of disc golf. No messing around with crappy discs today; used the 172g Cobra which has my best score for those 6 holes of 4 under par. Only 2 under today but I have not done -2 or better in two months and have not used the Cobra in 1 1/2 months.

Note

Seems I did not do a good job washing my O socks last time I wore them. Bad case of poison ivy on both ankles from sunday and I do not think it was from any poison ivy at the meet. Washed with Technu yesterday but rash was already fully present.

disc golf 13:00 [1] 0.68 km (19:07 / km)
(rest day) shoes: Saucony Grid Shadow

Over to Burke Lake for some disc golf and no running. Not feeling particularly strong today so used the Frisbee Mid-range driver so I could have a disc to blame if I threw poorly. A bit heavy (179g) and very little high speed turn or low speed fade. Recall from last time that it is very grippy but wears badly. Sure enough I dropped it while crossing the parking lot and that was enough to scrape it some more. First 6 holes twice. 2 over, then par. Went on to play a few more holes. Hit a tree on the drive on 7 an noticed that the plastic had deformed and had a slight crease near the rim. Should have taken that as a sign. Hit another tree on the 8 hole and the rim cracked and started separating from the disk. I have only used the disc 3 times for a total of 85 throws. Maybe it was just that disc, but the plastic used to make it was clearly not suitable.

other (mowing) 30:00 [1]

All the rain yesterday should revive the lawn just as the fall growing season starts. Picked up the sticks and raked the leaves deposited by Hanna then cut the back yard.

orienteering (blue) 2:43:28 [2] *** 7.5 km (21:48 / km)
spiked:6/21c shoes: Olway - studs

QOC meet at Bowie. 1pm. Tired from yesterday and definitely navigationally challenged. Have not done any orienteering since last spring and it showed. Could not seem to find anything. Kept trying to use mapped vegetation to navigate which was a mistake since the map is old and the vegetation mostly wrong. Lots of thorns and deadfall and I seemed to keep picking routes that went through those areas. Got lost in the trails, got lost in the knolls & depressions, and got lost in the open woods with no features. Eventually meandered my way into all the controls and finished.

run (trail) 8:24 [1]
shoes: Olway - studs

Warmup jogging from parking to start before the run and then back from finish after the run.

walk (road) 25:00 [1] 1.0 mi (25:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid Shadow

Walk with Bev later that night.

Note

While clearing splits from the watch 9/25/09, I have a split of 38:11 from today. Not the warmup, nor the O time which had their own splits. Either I picked up controls (doubltfull after a 2:43) or did something else. Assuming it may have been the walk with Bev and I forgot to stop the watch.
