orienteering (course setting) 1:09:30 [1] 4.4 km (15:48 / km)
slept:6.5 weight:182.4lbs shoes: Olway - no studs

Putting out controls for meet on Sunday. Dads birthday party is tomorrow so I may not have enough time to get them all out tomorrow so did one loop today. Took longer than expected - about 2 hours. Had planned to run more and faster but irritated my sore right ankle in the first 100m so took it slow and walked a lot. Also put streamers on a bunch more barbed wire.

Nice day to be in the woods but I had only requested 1/2 day off so had to go in to work. Hope the weather holds through the meet on Sunday.

Should bring some binoculars on sunday. Area is a bird sanctuary or something and I often see people out bird watching. Saw an owl today.

orienteering (course setting) 1:30:40 [1] 6.3 km (14:23 / km)
slept:11.0 weight:180.6lbs shoes: Avia

Course setting at Stuart's Hill. Checked the rest of my planned control locations plus a few back ups, then wandered about trying to get a white course. The good trail loops are either to long or require a stream crossing so I was looking at using the fields. Spent 2:16 and recorded as 2/3 time to account for the time standing around and tying streamers.

Weight is down to 180.6, might make it down to my goal of 180 before the start of the holiday eating season. Unfortunately, it is probably down because I was dehydrated and the holiday eating season starts tomorrow with our thanksgiving lunch at work.

orienteering (red) 1:18:36 [4] *** 7.9 km (9:57 / km) +330m 8:14 / km
spiked:10/13c weight:181.4lbs shoes: Olway - no studs

QOC: Mid-Atlantic champs at Oregon Ridge. Red. A fast course but a lot of climb slowed me down. Twisted the right ankle a bit on the short leg from 3-4 and it hurt off and on for the rest of course. Would have liked to run faster on the mostly open woods. Lost time on the last two controls, leaving 11 in the wrong direction, then leaving 12 as if I was leaving 13 for the finish. 1:30 lost right at the end.

orienteering (relay) 25:45 [4] *** 2.7 km (9:32 / km) +100m 8:03 / km
spiked:5/7c shoes: Olway - no studs

QOC: Mid Atlantiics at Oregaon Ridge. Relay. Leg C on a QOC relay with Heidi Onkst and Greg Lennon. A lot of climb again and I tweaked the ankle enough early in the course to have it hurting for the rest. Started shortly behind 3 team. Tom Nolan ran away and I never saw him again. Passed one person at the first control, and passed Karl Ahlswede on the third. He passed me back after I died on the long uphill to 4. Chased him for the rest.
I think we would have been 7th but Greg had mispunched.

Note

After the meet, I stopped at Ledo Pizza to get something to eat and kill some time so I would miss the bulk of the Redskin traffic. Did not hit the road until nearly 5pm. Then there was an accident that closed I95 and I was stuck in the back up for about 3.5 miles. I would like to commend the Maryland and local police for the abysmal job of traffic control. They blocked off the road forcing everyone to exit at Rte 100 and then ignored what happened. Every 10 minutes (on the 8s) WTOP would give a traffic report and a horde of cars would go racing by on the shoulder - which only led to the same exit that everyone else was using. I eventually got home a little before 8pm.

On the plus side, I did miss the Redskins traffic.
