orienteering (Brown) 1:28:57 [2] 4.8 km (18:32 / km)

QOC: Patapsco - Rockburn Branch Park. Brown Course.
Another nice day to be wandering in the woods. Considered going back up to green, but I still have done no running recently so stuck with the shorter brown.
Got there right at 11 but still not early enough to get a parking space in the main lot. The walk from the lower lot and the long walk to the start was enough to get me tired before I even started. Started coughing immediately after starting so no pace faster than a shuffling jog and lots of walking.
Opening woods were covered with deadfall so I made poor time and direction. Mapped as light green in that section, but the control was in white woods and I could not tell any difference. Had trouble finding the control even though I came in from the trail bend. Similar problems on 2, woods were much greener than expected and the semi clearings I was using as attackpoints were hard to locate. Passed the control and had to circle back to find it in the green.
Woods opened up at that point and my orienteering got a lot better. Some problems on 4 (a boulder that was between 2 rootstocks) I stopped short when I found two unmapped rootstocks that were bigger than the mapped ones. Middle of the course went well, just slow. Looking forward to the last third that I could see was open with trails and roads. By the time I got there, however; I needed a bathroom and could not speed up. Probably ran slower, while everyone else sped up. Finished right in the middle.
