Went out and checked out a good portion of the Sportsplex map ski trails to make sure the trail network is accurate and up to date for my ski-o in February.

Carleton Cup! A really fun event to do with a bunch of friends. I got to the Aulde Dubliner in the market shortly after 5:00 and was one of the first to register so picked up Bib 1! Hung out until 7:10 when they read the rules and we walked to the canal. 6.2 km of skating and 600 or 700 m of running back to the Aulde Dubliner and your time stops when the drink hits your lips.

I skated around for a few minutes before the start as my 'warm up' and had lots of group pictures taken. The ice conditions were very rough with a solid layer of chopped up ice snow on top - gross.
I started near the front and took off a little slowly and cautiously through the crowd but kept picking up places on the way out. I think I was in second when I got to the skate turn around and held that pretty much all the way back. Someone caught me less than 100 m to the exchange and got off the canal faster than I did. He took the left route choice to the bar though and I went right and j-walked a few streets with no traffic to catch him at the door to the pub. Unfortunately he beat me into the stairwell and got to the beer first.

The funny thing though is that though he actually finished ahead of me by a second of so the officials took the slip off of my bib first so I was recorded as beating him by a second. Oh and I was officially disqualified anyway for where nordic skates. Recorded time of 21:47.

Carleton Engineers represented well with Lisa and Lyndsay from CSCE coming in 1st and 3rd in the women.

Deep water running 40:00 [1] 6.7 km (5:58 / km)

Went to the pool with Eric at lunch time instead of going to class. Given that it's econ, pool running is a much better use of my time ;)

Went out to training tonight but as the inside of my lower right leg was feeling tender I didn't do the actual workout just jogged a loop and back. Near the end I felt my right achilles a tiny tiny bit too. Sigh... I wish I wasn't so broken all the time...

I went out with some friends on the Canal today during a break from class. A whole bunch of us are going to race the Carleton Cup on Saturday so we figured we go for a 'training' skate today. It was a lot of fun and we're going again Thursday.
I'm concerned about the inside of my right shin right now which is why I didn't go for a run yesterday (along with the cold of course). I was ready to be cautious on the ice today but I didn't feel my shin at all. My 'ankles' (above and in front of them) were really sore while skating hard but not an injury kind of sore. Once we had all made it down to the end of the Canal I realised I had 20 ish minutes to get back in time for my class. I booked it down to the end (5.1 km) in a little over 13 min then jogged the last km to school in my ski boots. I got changed and made it to class about 2 min late but the prof hadn't started the lecture yet!
