Orienteering 20:44 [3] 4.23 km (4:54 / km)
ahr:172 max:183 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline ASR

Tried to just maintain a steady pace throughout the course today. Mucked up one as I so often do then pretty clean through to 4, then overshot five taking the track, then good again till a hesitation at 16.

Overall nav was better than last week although I still need to adjust better to the scale. Next goal is to feel confident with my calves again and start actually running hard.

Calf feeling much better today. Felt the spasm releasing last night. Didn't want to push to hard until the calf is 100%. legs are feeling so much better after a week without 100km+ of hills riding and no running since the weekend.
Maybe the calf niggle was a blessing in disguise.

Bike (Commute) 25:00 [3] 10.0 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Trek Road Bike

Gentle ride each way. Partly because of the wind but mainly due to my right calf. Locked up again yesterday arvo and have been hobbling ever since. Especially after sitting for any length of time. Got some dry needling and standard physio stuff this morning so hopefully will be ok by the weekend

Bike (Commute) 24:27 [3] 10.65 km (2:18 / km)
shoes: Trek Road Bike

Strength/Core 25:00 [3]

A very uninspired 2 curcuits of usual core stuff.

Rowing Machine 10:00 [3] 1.3 km (7:42 / km)

Calf is pretty sore today from yesterday so running was out. Didn't feel like doing weights, actually didn't feel like doing anything but settled for 10 mins on our gyms crappy rowing machine.

Bike (Commute) 24:31 [3] 10.6 km (2:19 / km)
shoes: Trek Road Bike

Slow ride home. Calf has got much worse as the day went on. Especially when rising from sitting for a while. (Typical soft tissue inflammatory stuff.)

Then it felt every little bump in the path on the way home. Really tender to touch and seems swollen so will get some physio tomorrow which I am sure is gonna help but will be teeth clenchingly uncomfortable.

And before anyone comments I know there is no such word as clenchingly

Multisport race race (Champion Lakes Tri) 43:10 [5] 14.25 km (3:02 / km)

My first ever triathlon complete!

Swim was appalling. Took 7.03 for the 250m. Deliberately started at the back of the group as we all know swimming is not my forte. As a result was caught up in plenty of wash and no real chance of swimming normally (my normally). By the first mark I resorted to breaststroke as my breathing was more comfortable and I was keeping up with the guys around me anyway. Even if I did freestyle I don't think I would have passed anyone so I just stuck at the back and coped my 15 position in my category.

First transition was OK until one of the pins came of as I put my shirt on so wasted time pinning it back on.

Hopped on the bike and first objective was to catch a mate who had killed me in the swim. Got him about halfway around the first lap. This was my best leg and I did the 13 and a bit k's in 26.30 which was 3rd on my category. Passed lots of people and nobody passed me. That is the advantage of being such a crap swimmer!

As I got of the bike my left calf cramped behind my knee despite no problems whilst riding, this was bad news going into the run. Running into transition I could feel the calf just wanting to cramp again so I was a bit concerned. Had a bit of a stretch in transition and then ran out in the wrong direction adding a couple of hundred meters to the run and time in the confusion. A marshal yelled at me and the other guy who did the same as we almost ran onto the bike course. The next 200-300m was a case of deciding if my calf would even let me do the run. Stopped twice just outside transition to stretch again before biting the bullet as we crossed the bridge and stopping for a decent stretch using the curb.

Ran the next couple of hundred meters with my toes pulled up towards me to stop the calf cramping again and eventually it dissipated and I ran the remainder ok. Surprised to see my 9.45 effort was 1st in my category.

Think I will try stretching towards the end of the bike leg if I ever do one of these again. Calf is sore now.

Finished 3rd in my category and 16th overall.

Bike 38:36 [3] 10.6 km (3:38 / km)
shoes: Avanti Montari

Put the trailer bikes on our MTB's and took the kids for a ride down and around Kingsley Lake and back. My MTB has serious issues despite JCC mechanic keep saying he has fixed it. Front disc rubbing constantly and the back brake has lost all it power again plus the rear cog keeps slipping.

I am refusing to spend anymore on it at the bike shop so I will fiddle with it this week. Might have to get a new one soon. Not sure if I can put up with this one through the AR's this year.
