paddle (City Lights race) 3:12:35 [3] 29.17 km (6:36 / km)

The first 6km into the wind sucked, then cross chop for another 4km or so that Steve went WAAAAY out wide for - but we got to surf waves into the Narrows where the wind was cranking.

Once we got round the other side it calmed down but from there on Steve was behind me and as in previous years I started to feel really strong. I wasn't sure how long that would keep up but amazingly it kept up for the rest of the race.

Thrilled that I could do that distance and have it feel good!!! We got 2nd in mixed Molokai (would have been 3rd but Karl and Bae entered the wrong category) and then in the random prize draw I scored a lovely pink hat which will get donated to the ocean as quickly as possible!

My right hand suffered with blisters as expected and by the end of the race the strategically placed sports tape had turned pink! Looks pretty yuck today, it will be several days before I can pick up a paddle again. . . .

jog/walk (Tooms session) 40:00 [3] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

Tooms session involving drills designed to make me trip and fall on my face but ha ha I did not! Followed by 5min sets of 30sec on, 30sec off intervals x 2 which I did at 6:28 pace, so I would have been running just under 6:00/km for the running bits.

You're right Tooms I DO have three speeds! (Stop, go, and go a bit faster.)

Edmund put in a stellar preformance tonight too in the categories of Head Lifting and Not Screaming.

yoga 35:00 [3]

swimming 13:00 [3] 0.52 km (25:00 / km)

Had to stop every lap for the first 12 to clear flooding goggles, but I just wanted to roll the arms over and it was gorgeous at the upstairs pool!!

jog/walk 20:59 [3] 3.25 km (6:27 / km)
ahr:141 max:155

GPS doing funny things in the first km again, 5:29 for this one but it was closer to 750m! I kept running until it thought I had done 2km, 2nd lap 6:54 and 3rd 6:58.

That wasn't really 3km tho so I kept going until what I consider the 3km point at 6:30 pace cos I was determined to keep this run under 21:00 and I did, by 0.04s!!

paddle (yuck windy river) 1:37:05 [3] 13.77 km (7:03 / km)

Just when I thought this paddle couldn't get any slower . . . I was hungry all day and started the paddle hungry, so at least this training session fit the LSD goal of going slowly and teaching your body to tap into it's fat reserves. Not sure where mine are right now but apparently we all have HEAPS of energy stored in our bodies! Mine never made it to my blood stream, this was a struggle from about 6km on.

I taped my hands so the hand blisters were absolutely fine, not even a twinge. The fingers were a different matter, they are screaming. Sunday will involve lots of tape.

weights 1:00:00 [3]

The first of every month is my wide-arm chin up test. 1st Jan was my first day back in the weight room and I managed a slight (5 degree) elbow bend. 1st Feb I could get 3/4 of the way there. 1st March and I GOT IT BACK!! I was so surprised to have hauled myself all the way up as quickly as I did that I forgot to try for a second one and just held it for eight seconds.

Repeat x3

paddle (yucky warm windy river) 1:15:51 [3] 10.13 km (7:29 / km)

Half of this paddle was an absolute battle either into wind or with side-on (on both sides at the same time!) chop, the other half I could actually put some oomph into it.

17kt ESE gusting to 29kt when we started, soon dropped to 12kt and became more S for fun on the way back. Not enjoyable at all and the blisters are unhappy too- but hopefully they will toughen up by Sunday???
