I decided it was time to go backwards in paddle grip and instead of building it up with tennis racquet grip, I got paddle #1 (original Bennett) out and chopped off all the tape holding the locator on at the non-blade end. This was like an archaeological dig, as I have steadily added tape to try to cut down on blister development due to rough spots.
Now my locator is held on at only one end, but I'm keen to get back to just the shaft as the mykayakcoach guy anticipated that I would have wrist trouble with a fat grip - and it happened.
I went for 8km tonight and there was a twinge of wrist pain that quickly went away. And this average speed is the fastest I've done post-op #2. Hmm. My middle finger has a blister but the usual blister spots are fine, maybe I'm just destined to have blisters!!
