First ride with cleats and as expected I made it all of 100m before the first need to unclip (I always get stuck in that spot) which I thankfully managed just fine. Getting reclipped was a challenge though.

Overall I had I think 4 stacks due to unclip failure, twice when I was pulling aside to let someone else pass and then fell over onto the track and they almost ran me over.

On a good note I got up Mt Gunjin about 1:30 faster than usual, about 21 minutes ride time which is still shocking.

I'm not 100% convinced about clippy pedals just yet as any time I gain on uphills is completely negated by riding cautiously at other times, or picking myself up from the dirt after I topple over. And the start of summer when the trails are dry is probably not the best time to be learning, but I'll persist. At least I didn't land on any snakes.

Heaps less awful than Monday, although my first km was very slow (6:53) as I was trying to make sure I could run the whole thing! One walk break at 1.7km and a couple short stops to wait for cars.

Well if I needed a baseline of uselessness so that I can only improve from here, I got it. This was a real struggle, probably the humidity did not help but 10 days of eating too much (and being back on the wine and beer!) has got me over 60kg . . . .

Back to being healthy this week!
