bike ride (Kalamunda Circuit) 1:44:44 [3] 21.1 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: Anthem X 29er

Stick-legs said NO to hills, but apart from that I had a great ride! I slid out just before the technical bits at the top of X-Files and got both my feet stuck in the cleats, embarrassing. However, I then nailed all three of the tricky bits for the first time in ages.

22:40 to get up Gunjin, but felt like I was flying down MT and HD.

learning to run 18:31 [3] 3.01 km (6:09 / km)
ahr:136 max:148

This didn't feel too comfortable, my HR was a bit high and I seem to have lost the 'slow' speed cos when I tried to slow down the 2nd km it was 5:43! So I cut it at 3km with a slight twinge to the knee anyway.

learning to run 2:52 [3] 0.52 km (5:32 / km)
ahr:130 max:145

But then I got bored and did 500m fast, unfortunately with two stops for cars. Felt good.

paddle (IOP winter series race) 1:24:06 [3] 11.77 km (7:09 / km)
shoes: Swordfish

Three kind of triangles, with the 'downwind' leg being about 500m long.

A bizarre mix of side chop and upwind for 2.5km of each triangle, which I HATE. I pretty quickly lost interest in racing and was just miserable and unsure about why I am going to Mauritius.

The last lap I managed to find some decent waves to chase on the downwind bit but I failed to look where I was going and got quite far off course - and got caught by the two girls behind me when I corrected.

Good points: I didn't swim, and got a fair bit of balance practice, and everyone else thought it was miserable too. :-)

learning to run 16:00 [3] 2.5 km (6:24 / km)

Time a guess, GPS not happy.

Planned for 4km but my knee was twinging at about 1.5 so I cut that back to 2km. Walked for 500m and it felt fine so I did a fast 500m (fast for me, 2:46) to see how it would feel. Felt OK.

4min overgeared (I learned a new word!) 2min rest x 5

learning to run (testing) 5:00 [3]

The knee didn't pull up so well after Sunday's run so I have taken a couple days off and just tested it this morning. About 90% ok, so I think I'll be conservative and wait another couple days before a real run.

paddle 1:30:45 [3] 14.01 km (6:29 / km)
shoes: Swordfish

From UWA 7km out then back. I had forgotten how lonely the bit between the Narrows and UWA is in pitch black darkness. Luckily it was rather choppy and I had to concentrate!

Overall quite happy with the time as I wasn't pushing particularly hard, this was a 2km increase in max distance for Mauritius training.

Strength work - 4min on at a gear hard enough to slow me to ~60rpm, 2min easy, x3.
