Flat Paddle 45:37 [3] 7.83 km (5:50 / km)
ahr:128 shoes: Epic V10

I got my boat back!! Woo hoo!

Had meetings in Perth so I grabbed the boat after worked and stopped off near the Mount Henry bridge for a cruise, went upstream into the Shelley area with some solid race pace efforts. A few niggles in my arms but a good paddle overall. Lovely evening to be out.

Run (/coasteer) 1:25:00 [3] 13.0 km (6:32 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 3

A create your own adventure run on Rotto.

From the pub, down Thompsons bay then around the coast for about 4kms of beach running, rock scrambling turning more and more into cliff climbing. A tumble down a small cliff followed by a near tumble down a large cliff had me starting to question the sensibility of doing this run by myself, some suspiciously snake-like rustling in the low scrub confirmed these suspicions but I kept going until I encountered a 1m long dugite.

I then decided to continue the run on a marked path for the sake of my heart rate. Kept going along the south coast till just before the lighthouse and cut back along the road through the middle of the island. The couple of hills towards the end plus the slog between the lakes into the wind was fairly hard going but I kept up a decent pace so I was happy. I was happy with the pace for the entire run considering the bush bashing / backtracking required in the early parts.

Swim 15:00 [3]

A swim from the Kingston Barracks south along the beach with Rach. After the obligitory attempted drowning following a killer seaweed attack we got moving.

I felt really slow but we were going into a bit of wind, after Rach got out I headed back with the wind behind me and it felt a bit better but I feel horribly under prepared for Anaconda. I am praying for a fairly strong westerly breeze on race day.

Road Ride (Rotto loop) 1:30:00 [3] 27.0 km (18.0 kph)

That was the first ride I have ever done that has left me with the imprint of a set of handlebars in my backside.

We were slightly over refreshed from lunch which may have contributed to our decision to try and do a lap of Rottnest on a tandem bike. This was both of our first times on a tandem and I feel absolutely no need to get on one ever again.

The ride itself was fairly pleasant, a cruise out to the west end of the island with a stonking tail wind, some nice touristy stops along the way. The slog back into the wind was not much fun as our bike choice and clothes worn started to cause some discomfort.

The right knee also fired up about 2/3rds of the way back so we stopped and had some ice cream to let it rest. And then drink a bottle of wine to let it rest further. the last 2kms home were probably the most interesting. didn't feel any pain at least.

Note
(rest day)

Damn Robbie.

He called me as I was driving home and mentioned that he had bailed on training and gone to drink beer instead. So I did the same. I am a sucker for peer pressure.

Ocean Paddle (surf club) 54:36 [3] 7.97 km (6:51 / km)
ahr:135 max:162

Paddle with the surf club, in an attemp to stave of endorfinn base insanity I borrowed a spec ski off the clubbies, they stitched me up a bit. ("no, not that one, thats too stable")

8 x 5 min at 60%, 30 strokes at 100%. I have noticed over the last few months that my 100% stroke rate is alot lower than alot of the clubbies 100% rate, since I am still matching them pase wise I am not overly concerned but I am curious of the difference. Hopefully it means that I am more efficient?

The spec ski was actually really tippy, having a short leg length didn't help but also lacking the support on the hips meant that I did have to throw down the odd brace stroke even though the ocean was fairly flat. It got more comfortable by the end and I felt like I could actually go 100% but the clubbies were cheering for a swim at the start.

I want my boat back.

Run 37:25 [3] 7.65 km (4:53 / km)
ahr:155 max:176 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 3

Followed paddling with a run around teh inlet plus a bonus caravan park loop. Legs felt tired from paddling at the start but got better and I put in an effort at along the parade to get down under 4minks, could only hold it for 400m though. still felt good at the end of the run so I could have gone longer but my shins are a bit sore afterwards. too much road running .

Road Ride 1:02:10 [3] 27.79 km (26.8 kph)
ahr:133 shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Cruise down the coast to Dalyellup and out to both beaches. started off easily, felt good at the halfway mark so pushed up a hill. Right knee started feeling delicate on the inside fairly quickly so I backed off and cruised home. annoying.
