Run warm up/down 15:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 4

I actually did a proper warm up with run throughs and everything. did a dodgy cool down jog as well.

Orienteering (Hale) 17:36 [3] 3.5 km (5:02 / km)
ahr:168 max:179 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 4

Nav Dash, I thought I wasn't going to do any of these?

Very ugly to 1 and 2, had to hunt for them. proppy to 3-5 then started to get the hang of it again. Happy with my speed across the oval (1 and 4s behing tRicky, well slower than Fletch)

I saw Richard coming into 16 then chased him through to 18 but had to run home alone once I got past.

Knackered at the end. 3rd overall which is a new best, but I was the only person in the top 9 not to get a fastest leg split. even the Dolphinator got two!

Flat Paddle (IOP) 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Epic V10

Back in the V10 for the IOP session. 10 min efforts with DPM counts at minutes 1, 5 and 9. Pace is sneaking back up again so my DPM was lower. No Nick I think was the reason. And some guys just ignore the DPM bits which throws me off.

Turned at the traffic bridge and headed back with Andrew in his shiny. Paddled solidly till the start of Blackwall reach then put in an effort to the boat halfway down. I was struggling ot hold him for the first 200m adn dropped back onto his wash but I came back past for the 1/2 boat length win. every time he is getting closer and it won't be long till the little bastard pips me.

Commute 33:00 [3] 16.2 km (29.5 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

fast ride in, even a slight tailwind.

Commute 55:00 [2] 16.2 km (17.7 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Since I had agreed to ride home with Rach tonight I have no idea how I ended up still taking the roadie in. Hills were enertaining to say the least as I ran out of gears.

Commute 32:14 [3] 15.98 km (29.7 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Fastest trip yet!!!! I think

legs felt good so I just kept the pace strong down the freeway. I overtook one pack that all jumped on the back and then two of them went the repass just before the narrows. and then slow down over the narrows. I channelled my inner tRicky as I smashed back past them. fun ride.

Run 1:02:00 [3] 10.2 km (6:05 / km)
ahr:133 max:170 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 4

Muz's group run without the Muz. Included the DNA tower for the first time. I popped trying to match Robbie up the hill. Lots of talk about food.

Flat Paddle 55:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:53 / km)

Back on the PRS for the XPD session. I deliberately bought this since Andrew was meant to bring his. But he was still on a 2 day hangover so he didn’t show. Frenchie and Robin were paddling Snowflake so I paced with them for the most part.

I started a bit behind them and had to chase, I wasn’t sure I was going to catch them but I put in an effort just before Aquarama to hop on their wash, then when the HR went down I pulled up alongside.

Met up with Rach and Karen after the turn round and watched Rach jump on Snowflakes wash. And then scare Frenchy by ramming them a few times. I slowed down chatting to Karen then put in a sprint to the finish, forearms a bit sore from the stretcher bearing and my shoulders are really tight. Must be a massage week.

Didn’t use a GPS for either PRS session so I haven’t got any speed figures unfortunately. I should do some comparison work before I make a decision. But in general the PRS is a world above the Endorfinn and probably the way to go for the Avon. It holds speed so much better and seems to be more comfortable as well.

Commute 34:51 [3] 16.05 km (27.6 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

To work. Tried some new shoes out, didn't have the cleats quite right though with the left heel being a bit close to the bike and the outside of my right foot gettign a bit sore. I will try to adjust them before the ride home.
6 PM

Commute 37:31 [3] 16.16 km (25.8 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

ride home. getting very dark and hard to see the pedestrians along the south side of the river. the rain will get rid of them soon.

Ocean Paddle 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 km (8:45 / km)

Figured out that I had yet to paddle Fletch's ski so we launched from the day 1 GSAR start and paddled out. Sea was pretty calm with bugger all wind and a swell about half that of the race. We let the girls go first (aren’t we nice) and Frenchie got out with a minimum of screaming and Karen just paddled out. Rach was still asleep for those of you keeping count.

Never having paddled a boat before the break zone is always a good place to get acquainted, I went for the old if “in doubt, accelerate” adage and shot past Robin and through some inconveniently located waves. Besides getting me wet the boat was very stable and hardly lost any speed. Good first impression.

We paddled out with the intention of heading west along the coast but as we rounded the corner the sight of waves smashing into rocks looked a little too daunting so we headed east to the other point, running with the swells was strange, you could feel the boat accelerate but it just wouldn’t surf. A bit of wind to stand the faces up may have helped but I round myself pulling my body forward onto the hump to try and get the nose down and surfing. Didn’t work. But I still had a better time of it compared to everyone else on their Endorphins and standard Spirits.

Stopped at the point to admire the scenery, rays of sunshine coming through the clouds highlighting the wind whipped spray from the waves smashing into the cliffs with the hills in the background. Nobody bought a camera though so we paddled back. Played in the break once we got back, the boat held its line very well, I am not sure how much of that was the underslung rudder but I could turn with confidence on the face of the waves. Had one swim when I was trying to show Frenchie what to do when a wave turns you sideways. Not that.

Trek 3:30:00 [3] 14.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Trance

Interesting run with Robin, Frenchy and Karen. we started from where the Bib crosses Ocean Beach Rd and headed wes straight up the hill from GSAR. Wet, windy and slippery from the recent rains and it was tricky going over the hill. After monkey rock we picked the pace up and ran a fair bit. Frenchy was recovering from a cold so the pace wasn't that hot. We got through lights beach and slowed a bit in the soft sand. Then slowed significantly.

As we came over a little rise some people saw us and cheered. not that it doesn't happen every day but these people asked for a lift. Three older people were out walking when one of the ladies hurt her ankle (later found out she broke her leg) so they called the paramedics. By the time we got there they had the lady strapped onto a stretcher but the para's were fairly elderly as well so they were trying to figure out how to carry her out. We ended up getting roped in and started moving down the track in 50m stretches. I got some serious arm pump at one stage and then we got a lot better at rotating around the stretcher so we could take a break at the back.

The paramedic bloke was pretty good at running the show and was big enough to hand his load over to Karen when he got tired. Frenchy had to carry the oxy tank and first aid kit out as well, not sure if she got the easy job as they weren't light either.

We got her to an open section of track then ran ahead to find the police, the police cut across from the road through a steep gully so we got to keep running till we found a better path out. then wait there till they got her loaded up and down the path. They couldn't fit the stretcher fully in the back of the 4wd police van so they were walking along behind holding her in. no rope? Once they saw the "track" we chose for them to get out the lady para valiently gave up her spot at the back of the van so I got to run up the hill behind the van holding hte stretcher, the "track" was over some decent sized shrubs at times so it was an interesting steeple chase. I claim that i was knackered at the top which is why I walked off with a huge paramedices jacket in my bag.

We were running fairly late by then so we hooked the girls up to the tow and hot footed it to Greens Pool where we supposed to meet Rach a long time ago. Gave the other three there bikes then took off for lunch with my parents. Got lost on the way which they found funny.
