Orienteering race (ngangorangutang) 1:56:17 [4] *** 12.0 km (9:41 / km)
ahr:149 max:172 spiked:3/19c shoes: Brooks Adrenaline ASR

um. well. yeh.

Didn't feel confident marking the map up since it had been months since I had looked at an O map. I inspired confidence in the starter by holding the map the worng way at the start and then staring at it for a few minutes before taking off.

And I promptly overran the first control, I thought I was too far east but after hunting on the wrong ridge I realised that I was too far west. good start. #2 I went too far north, and dragged a couple of people after me.

3 I ran too well, I kept track of the bar rock patches higher up the hill and use them to guide myself in. #4 was easy, ran straight to the area and followed two other guys in.

5 was similar, I had overtaken one guy but the other showed me the way. #6 I chose to run the track tehn cut through the saddle but I really struggeld to follow the contours and was getting a bit dispirited, stopped for a chat with Kirsten without feeling competetive of all. I eventually ran onto some rocky ground and used it to bet a bearing on the control.

#7 was one of my best, I found the clearing before the control then read teh rocks straight to the right spot while a bloke in front of me overran it. He heard the beep though and followed me to 8.

I made up for it at 9, I followed the ridge up OK I thought but the GPS says that I came in too low, lost some time and contact with the bloke I was matching. went too low at 10 too and went down the wrong ridge, and I was looking for a mound of earth, not the rock that the control was located on.

11 I saw the control before the feature, too easy. 12 was interesting, I just ran on a bearing till I hit the track and tried to relocate off the hill top, it worked well and I caught hte bloke I had lost earlier. 13 in a shallow gully I just followed into. 14 I just ran to, 15I ran back past the bloke and go tto the right area but was too timid following the ridge top. silly me. And I stop to chat to Wil. silly silly me.

the wheels fell off a bit on the way to 16. went to far south and hit the clearing, which sent me off in the right direction and onto the control but I was getting tired and not running well. plodded out to 17 and the nav was getting better as I slowed.

18 I made the call to cross the creek and follow the track which was stupid for two reasons, 1 was that I wasn't running fast enough any more to warrant the extra distance, and the track branched off a ton of times and was hard to follow. Fortunately the control was easy to see.

one control to go so I fell over a tree on the way there. ow. then I fortunately looked left just as I was overshooting the control and ran down to it. then the closest I got to a fast split to the finish.

Run 1:18:40 [3] 15.03 km (5:14 / km)
ahr:147 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 4

A commute to work. I took all my clothes in Thursday but I still ended up running with a decent pack to bring a jacket and a jumper in for the footy.

Went north first from home to cut some distance off my ride route at the expense of extra climb, I wasn’t particularity fast through the back streets and once I got down to the river I was enjoying the beautiful weather and running through the mists on the oval to get concerned about speed.

Once I got to the freeway I got bored and concentrated on keeping the speed better than 5 mink, even managed it over the narrows but was shattered when I got to work. Not the best for productivity.

Flat Paddle 1:01:10 [3] 8.42 km (7:16 / km)
ahr:117 shoes: Epic V10

Paddle with Andrew........ and Rach and Frenchie.

Picked an old IOP session out of my log, warm up, 3 @L3, 2@L4, 4 x 1 min on, 1 min off efforts. Rest, Repeat.

Really good session to knacker me, and Andrew is at that pace where there is no wash hanging, it is side by side the whole way which really keeps me honest. Curious who is going to prevail Saturday

Did some starts with Rach at the end. I had forgotten how to do starts.

Commute 35:23 [3] 15.75 km (26.7 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

I am learning, only got 200m down the road before I turned round for my helmet.
11 AM

Sports massage 1:00:00 [0]

Focus on quads, hammies, glutes. Bit of calf and shoulder work as well.

Quads were particularity sensitive but Grace reckoned that they were less knotted than normal.
She got quite concerned about the noises I was making at one point when she was working on the hammies. They need to supply a gimp ball like the one I get when I visit Jacko.
6 PM

Commute 37:00 [3] 16.2 km (26.3 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Rode home, left the bike computer and GPS in the bag and couldn’t be bothered getting them out. It was quite peaceful not knowing what speed I was doing, I think that is a good plan for XPD.

I need to raise the seat post again though, perhaps Tooms could show me how.

Run 53:07 [3] 9.1 km (5:50 / km) +149m 5:24 / km
ahr:141 max:169 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 4

Muz was back! And he decided to do lots of hills and soft sand. In Rabbits absence Jo had to punish me up the hills but it was a good run, I thought we might escape the rain but no dice.

Flat Paddle 1:05:43 [3] 9.35 km (7:02 / km)
ahr:119 shoes: Epic V10

Team paddle, I cruised along with Karen for a while waiting for Andrew to catch up. When Frenchie caught up she said that Andrew was in a K1 and wouldn't go more than 20m from shore, so he was hugging the bank the whole way down.

I left them and went and did a loop around the normal marker, then met Andrew coming the other way and went back up to the marker with him, he was hilariously unstable but still moving pretty quick between wobbling.

He was feeling confident enough to cut across the front of Aquarama on the way back and made it back to the start without swimming. the I hopped in it and took off. Felt really stable (compared to how he looked) but as soon as I tried to turn I fell in. damn.

Chilly this morning.
7 AM

Commute 35:22 [3] 15.85 km (26.9 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

rode in.

Overtook a pair of commuters along the freeway who hopped on, then a bloke went past doing 40 into the wind. I was happy to let him go but the bloke behind me decided to chase so I tacked on the back. I was red lining it just to hold on and when we approached some commuter traffic I cited safety and backed off. A good call it turned out since 20s later the guy in second wheel managed to swerve off the path and then popped back on and shot across it. happy to be well back at that stage.
5 PM

Commute 32:27 [3] 15.81 km (29.2 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

I'm singing in the rain.......... Everyone was upset about the rain but it was my first tailwind home this year! cruising down the freeway at 40 was great. corners were not so great. brakes were really not great. Might take the MTB tomorrow jsut so I can stop.

Commute 44:04 [3] 20.17 km (27.5 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Riding to work I couldn't shake the feeling that I had forgotten something, shoes? no. belt? no. wallet? no. But it's a bit chilly today...... oh.

So I got a bonus 4km's going back for my helmet that caused me to not quite be at work when the rain started. damn.
6 PM

Commute 35:09 [3] 16.12 km (27.5 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

First commute in the rain for the year. I thought I went fast but the average doesn't agree so I was obviously looking after my safety. good boy
