Flat Paddle warm up/down 15 [2] 1.0 km (15 / km)
shoes: Epic V12

warm up steadily into the wind and then some efforts back with the wind. And then reserving a spot on the fairly croweded start line.

Flat Paddle race (Paddle Challenge) 1:26:56 [4] 17.35 km (5:01 / km)
ahr:156 max:169 shoes: Epic V12

Paddle Challenge, mass start of all classes (136 boats). Time updated, 18th overall. Only 6s/km slower than the 12km's two weeks ago which I am pretty happy with.

I lined up alongside Adam Baker and John Wilke and got absolutely smoked off the line. After the first 500m I was sititng in the fifth bunch, only two of those in front containing ski's.

I sat on the front with Jenni for the first couple of km's, we put in a big effort to reel in the pair in front of us and got with in about 15m but couldn't get over the bump to be on their wash. in the end we settled down into our group of 4 ski's and Jenni. Dave and I were doing most of the work on the front and after the first turn I got tired of it and just stopped paddling. one of the other boys moved to the front and for the rest of it we shared to load a bit better.

Coming past the start line again the fourth bloke that had been bludging went to the front for a couple of big surges, sitting on 13.5 for a km and dropping Jenni off the back and then again after Garret road bridge.

The last bit of the course went through Ascot waters and with a really highh tide their wasn't much clearance under the second bridge. The other boys slowed for it but I accelerated and slid under with my head lying back on the deck. I came out the other side two boat lengths clear and took off for the finish line, I wasn't fast enough though and two of the boys rolled me before the line.

Finished 5th open ski to sneak into teh prizes, 7th ski overall maybe? and around 20th including the rest of the rabble.

I was happier with this race since I felt like I went better tactically, still lots of room for improvement on that front though.I worked a bit too hard to try and reel in the seconk pack early, I should have either tried harder adnd ensured I got them, or not tried so hard in the first place. I dunno.

But I did beat Andrew! which is bragging rights for a couple of weeks. Didn't get T2 though, and he quite loudly let everyone know when I went up to collect my prize.

MTB Ride (Jarrahdale) 2:00:00 [3] 31.0 km (15.5 kph)
shoes: Anthem MTB

Rode a few laps of the 6hr circuit at Jarrahdale. did the first on the Anthem adn felt quite skittish, I let some air out of the front and gave it to Robbie and did the next lap on his new 29er. shiny shiny shiny. It was so much faster uphill. a little harder to control through the tricky stuff and I got the honour of being the first person to crash it after I got the front wheel jammed on the back of a rollover.

Went back to the Anthem for the last lap whilst I contemplated selling a kidney.

Run 47:40 [3] 9.13 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 5

From the new Clancy's. It looked like it was going to be just Rach and myself until the phone rang and the other guys were all waiting for us the other side of the pub. huh.

Ended up splitting into two groups and I went with Robin, Si and Tim to do a loop of the Zamia trail, for some reason with a bonus Reabold rep thrown in. Si jogged along chatting while the rest of us wheezed along behind him, I felt like I was running pretty hard for most of the session and was shattered after. Clancys has got the Cowaramup Porter on as their special beer though so I started feeling better quite shortly afterwards.

Commute 1:07:00 [3] 31.0 km (27.8 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Ride to work via the ShotRaterry to drop off a key. Legs didn't have much zip in them so I just plodded for the most part. Got overtaken by two flat bar commuters on the freeway but I just let them go.

Flat Paddle (IOP) 1:19:41 [3] 13.34 km (5:58 / km)
ahr:132 max:152 shoes: Epic V12

6 x 10 minute sessions in the flat water oof Blackwall Reach with focus on stroke power.

The 10' was broken up into 20" count in the first minute, 40" count in the second, full count for the third, three minutes steady then the count cycle again. I felt like I was getting the hang of the count thing finally and my minute counts were between 31-34.

Still not sure doing a technique session amongst a pack in the dark whilst swerving between moored yachts is a good idea though. I had to take evasive action a few times.

Run 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 5

Kings park loop, pretty cruisy tonight with lots of walk breaks to let the girls catch up.

Commute 34:00 [3] 16.0 km (28.2 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

Rode to work. Is it taken as a given that anyone in a Mellow Jonnys Jersey is a spanker? This guy certainly appeared to be.

Commute 34:00 [3] 16.0 km (28.2 kph)
shoes: Dodgy Roadie

I got to the narrows and realised it was an easterly, perhaps I could set a new record home? pushed pretty hard the whole way and made it in........ the same time it took me to get to work when I wasn't pushing that hard. sigh.

Run 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 5

Run around the suburb. Legs felt pretty good after not doing much training on the weekend. I concentrated on drive from the glutes and they were pretty tired and not working at the end.

Back to nice weather today. Winter is apparently happy to wait for another couple of weeks.

I did wear my gps but it has now died completely and won't turn on. I like technology.

Flat Paddle (T2 session) 1:15:00 [3] 10.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Spirit PRS

I actually put the V12 in the roof Sunday before realising Monday morning that I said I would paddle the PRS so I had to swap them over. I found it really uncomfortable though and I doubt I want to race it this weekend. I need to spend some time with the padding and sort it out.

Session was fairly standard, no Andrew this week but T2 in his plastic and Paul in his V10 gave me something to chase. T2 claimed he was feeling flat but I couldn’t hold him early on in the sprints and only got past him on a few of the longer ones. Paul was a bit faster than me but I could hold his wash and sneak past on the turns whilst he protected his boat. He smashed me on the longer ones though.

Arms felt OK but I had a bit of forearm tightness. Legs were really uncomfortable and I need to spend some time sorting out the foot pads and seat. Really don’t want to race it for 18kms this weekend but not sure that many molokais are entering.
