Road Ride race (Tour De Blend Stage 3) 2:24:22 [3] 75.3 km (31.3 kph)
shoes: Giant Defy

The long awaited Tour de Blend Stage 3. Going in with a 9 second head start over Rich I thought I stood a chance of taking the Maillot Ochre..... right up until the day before when the KOM time bonuses got changed to 30 seconds. Bugger.

Starting out with about 14 riders, it was the cruisiest the bunch had gone with none wanting to work too hard on the front, until Shelley when one of the boys went on a very optimistic long range attack, but again no one wanted to chase so he got a big gap before we picked up the pace. I did a half arsed lead but nothing too enthusiastic.

Second sprint point was at the blue boat hose near UWA, pre race I agreed to lead out Al in return for some help later in the race so I put in a big dig and took him off the front, he won the sprint but I was still feeling the effort as we entered Kings park for the first KOM, and only managed to hang on for third whilst Rich took first, now I was trailing.

Last KOM was the top of Reabold, we had plans to split the group up before this climb but Rich was too strong and made the gap, then took second on the climb to my thirds to pretty much wrap the race up. We still had to get back to Blend though so we cruised down the coast as a lot of the poorer climbers caught back up. I made on optimistic attack down the hill at Point Walter to latch on to a fast group that just overtook us, it worked but again Rich and one other made the gap so in the end it was just the two of us sprinting up the last hill to Blend.... he won that too. bastard.

Pissed to lose, especially as I had a cold all week and felt crook during the race. Still really good fun, I should race more often.
