Sunday Jun 14, 2009 #

Running (Warm Up) 9:58 [3] 1.56 km (6:23 / km)
shoes: Twisters

Just as I had decided to go out orienteering it starts to pour down!! Laavely...actually was soo buzzing and just really wanted to get out and was really looking forward to running in the rain as I havent in ages :D

Orienteering long 1:42:03 [5] 11.96 km (8:32 / km)
shoes: Twisters

Couldn't find a run for a Jukola leg so grabbed a map of Leg 6 and off I went.
It was a very good course and I really enjoyed it. By the time I was out there was only old men and other men who had no idea what they were doing! The elephant tracks were ENORMOUS!! Literally it was like new paths had been made in the forest. Was totally different than the previous day, really ruined it. A lot of the nice terrain had turned into bogs due to the amount of people running over it. However tried to stay clear of them which was pretty hard to do as these tracks were remarkbly VERY accurate. However I knew where I was all the time and kept thumbing the map. I really enjoyed myself and just loved it. Had some very good legs and just overall, so glad I went out. Would have totally of regretted it. Got all the controls well and felt incredibly confident. As for physically it was very tiring after having only max of 2 hours sleep and having run the day before. But I think I coped well. Very enjoyable :D

Running (Warm Down) 3:51 [2] 0.55 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: Twisters

Started warming down but then realised we were leaving soon so was like shitee I need a shower I stink of mud and sweat and I need to eat breakfast and do my teeth. Then bumped into Becks and well we were leaving right then so was annoyed as our flight was at 11 at night but there we go. Had lunch instead at 12 at a pizza buffet was yumm :)

Played some crazy golf and I lost :( I'd be better on a driving range!

Then Charlotte suggested swimming in a lake so I caved in and agreed and it was freeeeeeezing!!

Event: Jukola 2009

Running (Warm Up) 8:00 [3] 1.14 km (7:01 / km)
shoes: Walshes (latest)

Once in the pen went for a warm up around the track with Charlotte. I realised after the race that this was not a fast enough pace and I need to start doing my own prep before a race

Warm Up 9:35 [2] 0.48 km (19:58 / km)
shoes: Walshes (latest)

Strides, drills and stretches...paid particular attention to my glute

Orienteering race (Venla Relay) 56:29 [5] 8.51 km (6:38 / km)
shoes: Walshes (latest)

Leg 1 - I was number 73 so I was right up at the front to begin with. However due to a slow warm up and not having a quick enough pace which I'm normally used to, I felt my legs weren't fast enough to start off with. I lost SOOO many placings. My legs just didn't seem to move it was a horrible feeling. Got the first few controls well then number 5 (long leg) I got there fine but then I changed my route into the control. It was becus the way I wanted to go, I didn't see anyone else go that way, so I went with a group of girls and we were all running round like ahh where's the control. This was the only time in the race I followed someone and it ended badly!! If I'd done my own thing I know I would have spiked it as it was one I would have been confident with. Relocated though and got the control. Was fine after that and totally did my own thing. Felt I got the navigation spot on except for that little blip. Physically though I felt very slow. I haven't done enough long runs as been focusing on sprint and middle for jwoc so that opened my eyes to what I need to do in the next few weeks.

I was actually really happy with how I did, as like I said I got my technique right. I was relaxed and didn't feel pressurised and let nothing get to my head. Mentally and technically I was there.

My dad said I should have got in with a group and followed them. I know others that did this but I wasn't going to go to Finland just to follow someone around a course. I wanted to do my own thing and in a way do it indvidually. I've only done two relays now this year. Both have gone well so I'm happy about that and can't wait for the jwoc relay. I've been thinking about what leg I should run.

Anyway back to Jukola. It was soooo hot! Felt sick running into the finish. Lovely day though and full of excitement. I'm sooo doing it next year :D :D

Running (Warm Down) 13:58 [3] 1.94 km (7:12 / km)

Ran round the assembly area bare foot in my running bra with my ipod and sunny's which felt niceee. Still soooo hot!! Silly weather forecast saying it wuld be raining

Running 12:09 [3] 1.39 km (8:44 / km)
shoes: Walshes (latest)

Just a short one to see how the glute was feeling. Feeling good which was a positive sign. Went around the paths of the campsite and ran down a pier to see the lovely Finnish lakes. Also had two finnish lads shouting something at me everytime they saw me...god knows what they were saying but they were drunk for sure!!

Note
(injured) (rest day)

I'm trying to be sensible and listen to my body.
I did a hard week last week and felt fine.
However cus of my back and glute I don't so I'm really easing. I feel I'm getting good at listening to it and knowing when to stop. Me and my dad though are not talking at all cus he says I'm not doing enough training.

Went to a Britney Spears Concert last night for my Birthday. IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

But my right plantar fascia was hurting a lot and also my glute did when we were running and walking fast.

Running (Warm Up) 13:03 [3] 2.49 km (5:14 / km)
shoes: Asics

Field and canal

Warm Up 10:49 [2] 0.68 km (15:54 / km)
shoes: Nikes

Strides, drills and stretches

Running (Track Intervals) 31:26 [5] 5.87 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: Nikes

1km
4 x 500m x 200m x 300m

1km - 3.54
500s - 1.52, 1.53, 1.57
200s - 39, 40, 43
300s - 64, 62, 67

Only did three as I've hurt my glute. Been told its down to my back which I've had a problem with since last Tuesday. Felt that my right leg wasn't being normal on the warm up but it only started to become more clear that it was my glute as the session got on.

Might have dont it on Sunday, not sure as didn't run yesterday.

Note

Phoned Karen Reid today (nutritionist)
Had a good talk about things.
She is sending me a template which I need to fill in next week.
Also going to when I'm at JWOC so she can see how I eat around a competition.
