Walking (Orienteering) 30:00 [3]

Hanging streamers for a junior line-O for my boys for the training that Bridget organized in the afternoon. Mix of regular controls and follow-the-line controls with the aim to practice cutting through the woods towards catching features knowing where to leave the trail and how to make sure you follow the right bearing.

Walking (Orienteering) 30:00 [3]

Lukas was happy to run the course by himself, but Tor wanted company (I think he is still a little afraid being by himself in the woods) so I walked with him. He has a really good grasp of the map and where to go, but absolutely no system for how to hold the map or how to go straight when cutting through the woods. Quite impressive that he ends up finding his way so well when it looks so haphazard :). We have talked about folding the map and thumbing in the past, but he is not interested in listening so I focused on talking about thinking ahead and knowing what to look for. At least he uses both the terrain and the compass to keep his map oriented.

Really fun to have other people out in the woods. Thanks Bridget and Kristin for setting this up!

Walking 40:00 [3]

Back to Weston Ski Track with the kids. A few degrees over freezing and rain, but still a good turnout and the kids had fun on the little patch of snow that remains (they have a totally awesome coach this year). I bumped into Ian and we ended up checking out possible places to run and managed to cross the highway next to Riverside T station and found a rather nice trail along the river before having to head back.

Note

Left knee more sore and stiff so may have overdone it the last couple of days.

Aerobics (Elliptical) 10:00 [3]

PT exercises 20:00 [3]

Back to see my PT, but had rescheduled the appointment and turned out I was scheduled with a different woman, which was OK as I don't really like to one I usually see. The new one thinks I am using the muscles around the knee to protect whatever tendon is inflamed resulting in that I am super tight in my hamstrings and calves so she worked on massage and foam rolling. Pretty tender when leaving.

Walking 40:00 [3]

Hadn't planned on walking, but was at Weston Ski Track with the kids and didn't have anything to do while they were skiing. I found a headlamp in the car and did a loop around the golf course in the dark.

Walking 1:00:00 [1]

Met up with a friend at Blue Hills East (the Shea ice rink) and went for a walk. My left knee can handle about 30 min before starting to hurt, but it is not very intense so I think it is fine to continue although my PT recommends me to stick with shorter walks.

Biking (Stationary biking) 20:00 [3]

Warm-up for my PT exercises.

Note

May start the new year by trying to log again :). 2018 was not a great year for me when it comes to exercise. I had problem with my left plantar fascia coming into the year and developed a pes anserine tendonitis in my right knee by skiing, which didn't go away until I got a cortison injection during the summer. And then my left knee started bothering me in the fall (around September) and I haven't ran since, but am doing PT and some biking.

Biking (Mountain biking) 30:00 [1]

Went for a bike ride in Hale with the kids. They are pretty confident and strong riders by now, but we stopped for quite some time to play at the mountain bike skill playground and to throw rocks in the pond so not the most intense ride. Beautiful day with sun and temperatures around 14C. Not a trace of winter!
7 PM

PT exercises 10:00 [3]

Step-ups, wall slides, knee kicks, hamstring curls, calf raises, bridges, and clams.
