Walking 1:20:00 [3]

At Hale with Mark and the kids. Beautiful winter in Boston as well. The kids spent a lot of time on the ice on the pond playing.

XC Skiing (Classic) 1:15:00 [3]

Last ski before heading home. The plan was to ski with Tor who only had the Cocoa Cabin trail left to ski before having skied all trails (except the Highland Lodge area), but he was too impatient to wait for me returning the keys so he took off by himself. Quite nice that he is independent enough to ski by himself and motivated enough to want to ski all trails (Lukas is a completely different story...). I headed out in the same direction but had really no energy left today so ended up more walking than skiing.

XC Skiing (Skating) 1:34:00 [3]

Got together with some of the kids friends and their parents for a "family" ski although the kids wanted to change it to an "adventure" ski so some arguments about which trails to do. Managed to get Lukas to join as well as Tor, but Lukas claimed that he was too tired to ski so a lot of coaxing to get him moving. Added a loop on my own at the end to get some uninterrupted skiing done as well.

The kids had signed up for a biathlon demo so I watched them for a while, but took off after a while to do a very short and easy ski around the Fox trails. It was so tempting to continue, though, so I added the Wylie Hills trail. Will be hard going back to Weston after all this gorgeous skiing!

XC Skiing (Classic) 1:34:00 [3]

Classic morning ski with Tor. Tracks had set over night and were firmer than yesterday. -12C when we set out and around -4C later in the day. Great skiing! Tor is trying to ski all the trails (except the lakes and the Highland Lodge trail to make it more achievable) so we did Ruthies and the trails on top plus some random trails here and there that he has missed this far. We were both tired from yesterday and Tor was in a chatty mood so lots of stops to talk and catch our breaths. Very enjoyable!

Afternoon ski with Lukas. The plan was to do more of the fat bike trails (he did Ruthie with Mark in the morning), but the ones we had planned to do weren't groomed so we had to ski around for a while to find any that were skiable. Found a good route eventually that even had a couple of bridges and an obstacle. Wrapped up with some skiing on the real trails by myself at the end.

XC Skiing (Skating) 2:00:00 [3]

Tor and I joined a few of the kids in his ski team (they are in "Norway" with Jim Stock this year) and some parents for a ski down to Craftsbury Village (with a stop at the Country Store for hot chocolate) and back over the Commons. -16C (7F) when we set out but sunny and very pleasant once the temperatures rose a little. An inch of two of fresh snow and rather soft conditions especially as the Commons Trail hadn't been groomed today. Not very fast and a fair amount of waiting to keep the group together, but still about what I can do so tired towards the end.

XC Skiing (Classic) 1:00:00 [3]

Not sure that I needed a second ski today, but wanted to get Lukas off the couch (he skied with Mark in the morning). Lukas started by saying that he wanted to go slow, which I was completely fine with :) We ended up skiing almost exclusively on the fat bike trails on Lukas's request. I think he would be completely sold on ski-O if I had thought of bringing my old maps and a map holder. The small trails are just gorgeous in the soft snow with lots of technical bumps and turns and just the right amount of steep and twisty downhills to keep you on your toes while still managing without falling too often. Would be easier with shorter skis, though. We spotted a team of Craftsbury kids enjoying the trails as well.

XC Skiing (Classic) 1:45:00 [3]

4 inches of new snow and well below freezing, but some freezing drizzle mixed in so not all fresh powder. Used my new skin skis and joined Tor who was skating a loop up Sam's and over to Max Pond and back.

XC Skiing (Skating) 1:00:00 [3]

Tor designed a loop including a lot of fast downhills, but I wasn't sure my body would appreciate all the uphills required so sent him off by himself and decided to ski with Lukas instead. Turned out that he also had his heart set on fast downhills so we did S-turns, Ellinor, Screaming Mimi, Kirby's pass and a few others before switching over to ski the fatbike trails. These were groomed by single snowmobile and meandering through the woods with twists and turns. A ton of fun when hitting them going down and a little less so when trying to go uphill. Reminded me of Ed and Alex's ski-O here a few years ago!

Note

Still having a headache after my Covid vaccine. Not bad, but I usually don't have headaches and I definitively have a low grade one that doesn't go away.

XC Skiing (Skating) 1:05:00 [3]

Our Covid test results came back negative so we made it up to Craftsbury! Threw on the skis when arriving and skied on the trails close to the Outdoor Center with the kids.
