Would be easy if not the agave induced injuries - sheens were very painful, like normal injury. On the bright side pain almost got away in the morning.

| Blue, Day 2.
Had problems in the same technical area where controls #1 and #2 were placed on the day 1. Spent some 2min pulling out needles out of my feet and right shoe - accidentally stepped on the cactus... Getting to #7 would be easy, but lost trail and mistook clearing for it. Attempt to cross reentrant following fence wasn't successful at all - opted to climb back up the hill and not try to jump across 2 meters cliffs in the stream bed, which worked quite well thankfully trail was quite distinct in this place. Would be not so bad race, except that grab wrong map at the map exchange and when figured out this decided to run the rest of the distance using Red map. http://www.losangelesorienteering.org/folder_gadge...=

| Not really "Middle" distance as it was announced. More like normal Classic despite being short due to a very slow terrain.
Map doesn't look so bad as reality was, ran without gators in short uniform. That wasn't wise at all, legs were bloody till the knees - green colors on the map represented different density of thick spiky bushes, agaves, and cactuses. Second day experience reveled that agave's spikes are more painful after rain, probably they produce some kind of ethereal oil - each encounter resulted in muscular crumpses and still, after 3 days looks more like bee's bites - swollen and very sensitive, with blueish areal around. Blowout first 2 controls - was hard to say what and how cliffs, rocks, and boulders were mapped and what was not mapped. Main challenge was to find crossable path in this mess, don't get lost, don't get hurt, don't step on the cactus, and make decision that this 5x10m cliff in front is mapped as cliff and not as impassable cliff. The rest of the distance was quite good, as good as it could be for my running shape, no errors, but rather slow - didn't have much gas to run after #7. Almost 2km altitude works just killing. http://www.losangelesorienteering.org/folder_gadge...=

| Rossmor bar, Sacramento. Red. Half of the map remains of gold rush mining activities - boulders, rocks, rocks, and rocks mixed with poison oak. Couple mistakes up to 10min in total - area quite complex at places. Would be very tough middle distance if mapped properly. | ||

| Bogs mtn., Blue, Day 2.Was way better navigationally, except one huge 20+min mistake on a very simple control. Plus couple small mistakes, up to 10 min. in total. Place was flatter, forest was more open, but technically it was harder than Day 1. | ||

| Shadowing Karina on White. Missed streamered route from #5 to #6 - streamers were not visible from the control site. For Karina it was lesson on taking bearing, lost about 6 min on this exercise. Which eventually would move her to the 3rd place. She placed overall best finishing split for White distance.

| Bogs mnt., Day 1, Blue. Navigational disaster. Terrain I never been to in my life. No wonder did ~30 min in mistakes. Was very good lesson for navigating in the normal forest. Was actually confused by the way how terrain features were represented on the map. Learned it hard way. Did 3 big mistakes and several smaller. On the bright side was able to relocate after mistakes and once at the right place, found controls with no problems. The big problem was to distinguish between raids, trails, indistinct trails, and not mapped raids. Also vegetation boundaries were not obvious in many places. Generally, map was very good.
Weather was amazing, +12-15, and around 20 at noon. Forest was soaked after Friday showers, but running in the Inov 330 was very confi, despite wet conditions.

| Shadowing Karina and Masha at once on White course. Was running between two girls back and forward, finished together, but Karina was very good at finishing. Supposed to be 2nd.

| Blue at Montebello. Would be perfect distance if not excessive climb at 5-6-7. Nothing technical at 4-5 and 6-7 except unnecessary brutal climb.
The majority of controls were placed quite technically utilizing best terrain available. Was quite surprised by making several mistakes in technical but well known places. Actually, recovered quite fast, losing less than 5 min in total.
