Orienteering 13:42 [4] 2.75 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 7

No JK Long for me but ran Dad's M50 sprint course from a few years ago before going to the event (started at 5 and kept running between start/finish but even not going flat out it was a decent time on that course).

Orienteering 15:06 [3] 2.03 km (7:26 / km)
shoes: Nvii Forest 1

Went out on the warm up map to try out new shoes.

Running warm up/down 8:46 [3] 1.22 km (7:11 / km)
shoes: Nike

JK Long was at Cold Ash in 2013 as well as today. That day I wasn't able to run the long and Dad was DSQ, I hope it doesn't go there again only because the same happened today! A very long way to go for no performances to show for it! Cool down with Dad who was understandably raging after getting DSQ after being seen to punch the correct control...(I should have given him my ones as backups!) Unfortunately despite the many good elements of this year's JK it will be remembered for the emit/results issues.

Saturday Apr 20 #

Running warm up/down 40:22 [3] 6.3 km (6:24 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX 6

Orienteering 46:20 [5] 6.8 km (6:49 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit OLX 6

JK Middle.
Thought I was passed this stage, conked out at 8. Breathing awful, cruised it back trying not to make mistakes. Not putting myself through tomorrow as after much experience of doing things for the sake of it, I’ve realised mentally and physically it does me no good.

Tough to take, really working hard on my confidence at the moment and this is testing it. Training hard and everything was going well. Less than a week ago thought I was fitter than ever, right now no idea. However you don’t suddenly become unfit in a few days, bad timing but I had a chat with Sarah Rollins today with some ideas.

I’ll be back!...Silly parallel error at 1, good route but must execute it right to the very end!

My boss from work also came along today I see what my sport was all about which was a nice touch and really committed to helping me.

Friday Apr 19 #

Orienteering 7:29 [4] 1.47 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 7

Felt a bit laboured, hopefully just the morning. Brain warmed up.

Running 39:58 [3] 6.83 km (5:51 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 7

W/u usual inc. trying to feel confident in punching system (haha), drills and strides to open out. Struggled a little to get going but stayed positive as thought I’d be fine with buzz of racing.
W/d frustrated so took myself away but found Lydia who totally understands my situation so was perfect at making me feel better.

Orienteering 17:10 [5] 3.74 km (4:35 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 7

JK Sprint - I am so much better than this so understandably not happy. Physically my body did not turn up today (evident in splits as I’m poor all the way). I felt flat, no next gear and just had nothing when passed.

I do not train as hard as I do to feel so demoralised. I have had the similar feeling with a slight high followed by real flatness racing just after a b12 injection before (reversing out syndrome). I’m learning to manage this issue but still learning. After emptying myself last weekend, body is still recovering with regard to this. I need more help as if I was in a British Senior team in other sports I’d have access to have support. As Dad puts it...I’d be an interesting case for a sports scientist!

No disrespect to all the volunteers but event totally marred by punching system. How this event can be used as a selection race? Also meant to be a world ranking event and Britain’s premier event...sadly makes the sport look like a joke when we don’t even know for sure who went to all the controls. 3 more days of this!

Thursday Apr 18 #

(rest day)

Standard work then travel to the deep deep south once again...

Orienteering 7:20 [4] 1.48 km (4:57 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 7

Wee stretch of the legs. Process good and starts nailed.

Wednesday Apr 17 #

Running warm up/down 19:15 [3] 3.4 km (5:40 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4

Strength and Conditioning 15:00 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4

Usual 30mins but a lot more stretching, mobilising and rolling than normal but kept in gluts, a bit of single leg, core and plyos.

Yoga 35:00 [0]

Running warm up/down 10:44 [3] 2.43 km (4:25 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4 (2)

Feeling the best I have in weeks, possibly months.

Running 9:00 [4] 1.6 km (5:37 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4 (2)

2x90secs (3mins), ready to go again.

B12 injection.

Tuesday Apr 16 #

Running warm up/down 25:59 [3] 5.05 km (5:09 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4 (2)

Orienteering 13:12 [4] 2.63 km (5:01 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4 (2)

Relevant course planned by Dad, had to be bit cautious as pretty wet. Good plans and committed to routes.

Monday Apr 15 #

Running warm up/down 9:24 [3] 1.99 km (4:43 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4 (2)

Not feeling too bad until tried...

Running warm up/down 13:30 [4] 2.13 km (6:20 / km)
shoes: Asics GT-1000 4 (2)

...3x90secs (3mins) which foolishly did 2/3 into wind. Legs understandably didn't want to move fast.

Massage with Rory to sort the legs out quickly.
Call with Lecky, debriefed and ready for next race :).
