Sunday Aug 11 #

Doddie cycle with Dad. Melrose, Smailholm, Kelso, Roxburgh, Jedburgh, Denholm, Hawick, Lilliesleaf and over the hill back to Melrose. Absolutely pouring, never really let up. Earlston flooded so route shortened slightly. Bit careful in the wet, some super deep puddles to ride through and had to turn to breath on the Hawick road as raining so hard. Still enjoyed it, definitely noticing my bike fitness improving.

Off the bike and into a run round Gattonside loop with Dad. 1st couple of km were particularly grim as my legs wouldn’t work at all, I was slipping and sliding everywhere and my stomach hurt. Eventually got going. Happy with weekend’s training as well help for the Heb both mentally and physically. Then home for major flat cleaning so luckily not too trashed.

To Lilliesleaf via Walkersknowe, Monteviot and St Cuthbert’s Way, some bits proper wet and muddy. Solo but had the incentive I was meeting Kaz at cafe at the end and tried to race the bad weather. 90mins in the dry and even then I was lucky as didn’t get too bad. Practiced eating and carried bag.

Meigle uphill race, always wanted to do one of these as I suck at downhill. Very steep pretty quickly and plenty of mud.

Cruised around Links/Tollcross/Fountainbridge event in all the puddles. Glad I wasn't racing as lots of crazy road crossings but even visited some areas new to me. Very impressed that my sister and mum stayed in Edinburgh to do this despite the storms all afternoon.
