(rest day)

On reflection, 6days did not go to plan, I should not have finished 5th. Learned so much on tour and was orienteering really well and as the 6days went on I slipped back into my old ways and I am now back orienteering how I was before tour. Need to stop and think about things and really work hard on my technical and mental side as confidence I had gained has gone. Parts of all my runs were good but everyday things let me down.

Saturday Aug 6, 2011 #

Running warm up/down 45:00 [3] 4.5 km (10:00 / km)

Dad and I ran the first 1km along the field to get an idea of time and then back. Then actually ran to the start. Then did the usual drills.

After went for a jog to try and find a physio for dad and then stretched.
Got into a good routine of doing all this during the week.

Day 6 Ardchattan
Made a mistake on number two lost two mins but then started to go really well again, running well but in control right until number 9 where a little mistake happened then they just got bigger. 4 mistakes in a row. Really really annoyed, most frustrating run of the week and cost my 3rd overall.
Middle section was really positive though and showed my fitness as still felt good on day 6.

Day 5 Lochnell

Mud mud mud. Really stupid mistake on 3. Really annoyed with this run as out of 19 controls I was only happy with 8 which just isn't good enough. Back orienteering badly not reading in the circle yet again.

Ran up the hill with dad and then to the start. Did drills there.
Jog with dad up towards the start again with dad and stretched.

Day 4 Torinturk
Really enjoyed this day. Slowed down a bit and tried to actually orienteer. Very difficult to do my own thing with all the tracks encouraging me to run too fast. Wasnt and still am not to sure with my route on the long leg. Slowed down even more in woods and perhaps didn't attack it enough but didn't make any big mistakes. Poor route on 16 and was put of by a wrong control coming in. Apart from that happy.

Day 3 Creag Mhich
First late start day, and boy was it different there were tracks everywhere, found that really difficult to do my own thing. Stopped to early twice on way to one and pulled into wrong re-entrant at 3. Settled down slightly after but then had no attackpoint and not a plan all the way on 7 so lost more time here, then just ran towards 8 without looking and ended up having to go around a huge crag. Then did a lot better and really happy with how the end went. Better than past few days but still disappointed.

Monday Aug 1, 2011 #

Day 2 Ardnaskie
Middle race. One of the first out, had to go around to 2 as couldn't get through. Calmed down a bit but then made a few more small mistakes and then got through the green unscathed before the last possible mess up control where I just didn't read in the circle and ran along a slope looking for a hill but it was down below. So annoyed. Anyway as the day went on it tracked up immesely people have said and times show. Again not happy.

Day 1 Dunollie
Not the way I wanted to start but as usual came in deciding I was dropping today. Control one was good, went to attackpoint and used compass. Then two completely messed up, no real attackpoint and couldn't find it in braken. Then went better and again was fastest where I used my compass. Ran hard to 5 but wasted it by finding 2 other controls before mine. Poor route to 6 in more than one way and then missed the good route to 7 and made a hash of my bad route. Ran past 9 and went the long way around to 10, never even saw how easy it was until I had finished. Even managed a poor route to last control. Not happy, messed up more controls in one race than I did all last week almost! Tried to orienteer how I had last week and didn't adapt to different terrain, then fell back into old habits.
