Fremantle half marathon
Started off with the intent of pacing myself and warming up throught the first few kms. Pretty much managed to contain myself and not go too hard - I was really unsure how I would go with the distance seeing as how I didn't end up getting any really long training runs done.
Built the pace steadily throughout, checking the splits were roughly 5:10's or thereabouts. For the most part I seemed to be reeling people in, with only a few going past me. The course wasn't overly picturesque, but it was nice and flat.
Had a couple of glimpses of the leaders in the turn arounds, and then marveled at how many people were in front of me. Kind of motivating in a way, thinking I had all of them to catch!
Enjoyed the last half of the second loop, watching the kms click down. Kept thinking about how long left rather than how far I'd been. It was easy to think "Only 5km to go, that's only 26 minutes or so, that's easy!" and kept that going in my head.
Built up a bit in the last km, but didn't want to blow up before the line. Happy enough with the time. It was warm, about 25 degrees by the time I finished, and apparently most of the times were a bit slower than expected.
I think I'm up for more of these (definitely not a full marathon though). Perhaps the C2S next year or the HBF R4R.
Now to sit down and do bugger all ...
