Tiger Territory 12hr (Nannup)

Planned about 29km with 1710pts plus whatever we got in town. Headed out into the nice hilly, open farmland first. Great views and easy nav. It was fun looking down into the big gullies and seeing tiny people down the bottom.

After 103 we followed tracks throughout the pines. Not entirely sure that 88 was in the right place, but it was close enough to not be an issue. Decended a STEEEEEEEP hill into 94 and then circled back into town.

Punched all of the controls and got 4 bonuses (ice creams, water, lollies and BEER!!!!!). Enjoyed the packet of S&V chips I'd packed on the way out of Nannup.

After 50 we picked up the Timberline track to 40. Well, actually not to 40 as it was the wrong track. We knew it was wrong (we turned off the main road about 10m too early) but kept on it anyway. We hit the SE end of the tracks that went to 40 eventually, so we took them straight to it.

Some more interesting track mapping around 52 and 57, where we crossed the river. Onto 81, which we missed - will be interesting to see RG if there is one because we couldn't have missed it by much.

Out to 66 and then followed some very dubious tracks through to 102, 79, 35 and 83 to be back in at 7.20pm, about an hour later than planned. Didn't really need torches (which was good as Ceri had decided that she wouldn't take one as we WOULD BE BACK BEFORE DARK!!).

10th place overall. The farm, pines and town were great fun, could have spent all day out that way. The bush was a bit crap, made crapper by the "interesting" track mapping. A great weekend away.

Taper for rogaine almost complete!

Note

How much does a pint cost in Nannup?

Running 1:05:30 [3] ** 9.1 km (7:12 / km) +183m 6:32 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Long course at Lake Lesch. GPS length 11.17km.

Relatively warm day, so I didn't push too hard. Took most of the cross country options, with the exception of 10-11. Nice bit of detail around the kiosk area at the end. Good use of the area in general - thanks tRicky!

Long Hard at JFNP

Quite an enjoyable mix of bush and streets. Lost small amounts of time around the place, but nothing significant. Had trouble reading the tiny detail but managed to stay on track. Got knocked off by shanel.

Bibra Lake loop

Looks like a new fence and possibly some tracks around a bush block on the North Lake map, hopefully we'll be allowed access.

Running 41:21 intensity: (29:21 @2) + (12:00 @4) 8.0 km (5:10 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenalin GTS

3 x 4 minute hard efforts, with 2 minute jog recovery in between. The watch seems to have lost connection with the satellites during the first hard effort, so the distance is a guess. Maybe I was running too fast for the satellites to keep up?

Running 28:56 [2] 5.19 km (5:34 / km) +12m 5:30 / km
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 9

Easy run in the cold morning easterly breeze.

Orienteering race 48:50 [4] 8.1 km (6:02 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Long @ Whiteman Park (GPS 9.7km)

Got sledged by Juffy before starting - apparently I was wearing too much protective equipment. What would HE know about having to run THROUGH the undergrowth rather than being able to step OVER it?

All clean, taking the straight and/or obvious track choices. The only mistake being at #3, where I came out about 15m left of the control, didn't see it and went way left before realising. Lost 55 seconds according to GPS.

Quite an enjoyable morning out - except for the flies.

Walking 31:50 [1] 2.1 km (15:10 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Walking most of the VE behind Kate. Lachlan also ran most of it. Rohan hitched a ride.

Good course for kids - flat and open, but still some decisions to be made.

Lachie and I (& Rohan) cut from #6 to #10 and watched Kate run around the edge of the paddock.

Saturday Oct 6, 2012 #

Running long 1:21:27 [2] 14.43 km (5:39 / km) +100m 5:27 / km
shoes: Brooks Adrenalin GTS

Long run around the eastern side of Bibra Lake to check out the track network for the North Lake map.

Wednesday Oct 3, 2012 #

Golf 3:30:00 [0] 0.3 km (11:40:00 / km)

Glen Iris in a cart (Ray had a bung knee).

Hit 101 - maybe I should play golf less often, it seems to improve my game.

Giving Blood 7:15 [1]

Got a badge and chocolates for my 25th donation. Yay me.

Monday Oct 1, 2012 #

Running 1:03:28 [3] 10.86 km (5:51 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenalin GTS

Slower loop around North Lake, checking the location of some features for the metrO map (assuming we get permission to use the area).
