Running 47:58 [4] 10.02 km (4:47 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 8

Goal was anything under 50 minutes, so I made sure my warm up wasn't too sluggish. Managed to get it down to quite a reasonable time in the end and not feel too bad throughout.

Hockey 1:20:00 [2] 2.5 km (32:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 8

Last game of coaching Lachlan's hockey.

Running 41:39 [4] 7.44 km (5:36 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 8

4 x 1km intervals with 90 sec rests. Less astonishing, but still ordinary.

Running 36:02 [4] 7.2 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 8

Started just trying to see what my ankle would feel like, so it was pretty slow going. Once I worked out that it was just a bit stiff, not really sore, I decided to try to get the whole run down to 5 min/km.

H1 at Frazzle

Managed to catch both Harry and Wayne at 1 and more or less stayed with them until about 4 where we all seemed to go slightly different ways. I rolled my left ankle coming through a gully towards 5. Pain shooting in three directions through my foot and ankle wasn't a real great feeling. Hobbled off to 5 and it warmed up okay. Bit messy a 6, never really off line, just struggled through the crap a bit. Started tiring a bit a 7 and 8 but no troubles. Saw Harry heading out of 8. Nearly down to 9 I went over on my ankle again. Went down in a screaming/swearing heap. Got up only to see Craig coming my way. He sledged my lack of speed before being a bit nicer and asking if I was okay. I used him as much a I could as I hobbled down to 9 and saw Harry again. Saw Wayne off on his way to 11 when I was near 10, but my ankle was steadily getting sorer and I was hobbling more and more. Bit of a pity because my nav was good through the rest of the course(except for a diabolical finish route choice) but I could barely raise a trot due to my ankle getting weaker.

Out of 17 I had a major brain fart and just could decide on the best way to the finish, so I settled on absolutely the worst way, back up past Sam's hut and the assembly area.

It was a good course and would have been a whole lot more enjoyable without a rolled ankle. Thanks to Sue and co.

Ankle is a nice egg shape at the moment.

Running 8:00 [2] 1.1 km (7:16 / km)

Cycle Commute 24:00 [3] 8.0 km (20.0 kph)

To and from car service. Managed to just avoid the rain front this morning.

Riding James' mtb - half the weight of Ceri's bike and very nice to ride.

Running 36:35 [4] 6.4 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 8

3 x 1 km intervals. Astonishingly ordinary.

Orienteering race 41:00 [5] 4.5 km (9:07 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 300

Enjoyable run through some nice patches of bush. Got a bit tired through the middle and in the thick stuff, but ran it out okay.

Overheard a conversation between two potential M70 entrants - "I was going to enter M70 but I was going to be the only one (WTF? Wasn't that the point?) so I changed to M55."

Other M70 "that's why I didn't enter"

One of these guys was the main agitator in the argument.

You just can't win.

Rogaine 6:20:00 [2] 23.4 km (16:14 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 8

Headed at East this morning on the loop we planned at night. Only two small wobbles that we again corrected well and didn't lose any real time. We cut all of the 10 pointers along the way which made for comfortable timing in the end.

Negatives: I think WARA really need to reassess the catering requirement for 24hr events. We were told at 5:30am this morning that bacon wasn't to be cooked until 6am - apparently early starters don't deserve bacon but people who sleep in do? At noon there was virtually no food left, certainly almost no choice. Surely spending an extra $200 on food couldn't hurt?

Positives:

New shoes were great.

The course was super accurate and well set out. Love the idea of something a bit different (the clusters) and the novelty element of the cereal boxes.

Oddly - hours of planning has no effect on our performance if this was anything to go by.

A big thank you to tRicky and Tash and the vetting crew. Great event, well done!

(BTW - we managed 6th overall)

Crunchy Nut Cluster 24 hr rogaine

I had to delay getting to the event due to coaching Lachlan's hockey team, so we got to the event at 11:45am. We listened to the briefing, set up the tent and took off with barely the bones of a route planned.

We headed out North and west. No problems early with the open farmland. Heading north out of 104 JB got zapped on a fence, much to my amusement. We then crossed some wet paddock up to the road which had another sappy fence. I put my foot on it as I had the last one and all of a sudden - bam! The water on my shoes must have conducted the electricity around the sole. Zappa score: one all.

Got up to 75 and found the cryptic clue about cereal and found some Coco Pops. - extra 20 points for us! Smooth through to 61, where we found Fruit Loops and then Sustain! Woo hoo - 90 point bonus.

We decided to keep our feet dry and not go to 44, but instead use the ford on the way to 101. We got to the smaller creek, barely jumping distance wide at about 5.45pm. I took a couple of steps to jump the creek, only to catch some hidden wire right on the bank and fell head long straight into the creek. Completely submerged and soaked. JB found it amusing for some reason. I stripped off, wrung out my pants and changed my shirt for a dry thermal. It must have been hilarious to watch.

Up to 101 just before dark and made the end of the track towards 93 right on dark. The next 500m took us half an hour. Super thick, tangled sheaoak trees made the whole long totally crap. Saw MrR for the third time heading down to 71.

Had a few small wobbles that we corrected really wel on the way back in to HH. Still not too sure what the special feature near 99 was?

Back in by 2230.
