Orienteering race 20:46 [4] *** 2.95 km (7:02 / km) shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 9
WA Sprint Champs - Curtin Stadium.
It would appear that something weird has happened with the start times as heaps of the late starters had REALLY fast first splits. Even weirder is that my watch time is 25 seconds longer than the time listed (20:20 on the results). There is NO WAY I nailed that first control by that much. The GPS track suggests I took about 1:34 to the first control and 1:07 + 0:25 is essentially that time. Based on that time alone - I beat Oscar by 20 seconds to the first control??????? Looks like the results times are probably highly inaccurate, and worse, all over the place.
Anyway - apart from having trouble finding the start triangle and reading the course (not the map) at times, this was a great course. Really had to think my way through it. Mostly happy with the run - some obvious better routes could have been taken, but I was on the ball enough to not make any large errors.
Didn't run Thursday morning due to interrupted sleep with a snotty Lachlan.
That was put to shame last night when Rohan also got snotty and decided that sleeping wasn't an option. It was like having an unsettled new born again.
Mountain Bike race 1:49:19 [4] ** 25.11 km (13.8 kph) +311m
Medium MTBO at Pickering Brook.
A bit rusty and didn't trust being able to pick some tracks so I took some conservative route choices. Deep, loose gravel made life interesting at times, as did the well vegetated tracks in places.
No real issues apart from a bit of a brain fade picking the right track into 4 (took 3 goes to get it right) and checking the length of an unmapped track just before getting to 7.
Small stack just before 8 - handle bar to the mouth plus a twisted ankle, as well as some collateral damage to my $4 DIY map board.
Worth while shaking out the cob webs before KillaAvon.
