Rogaine 8:40:00 [2] 33.0 km (15:45 / km)
shoes: Scarpa walking shoe

Spring into Spring 24 hr rogaine

Straight line plan for the first loop of 33km to collect 1470pts. We looked at a few different routes and the setters did a great job of spreading the points because every loop we did returned 46 pts/km.

Headed to the SE and quickly took the lead in the sideways rain shower - mainly because most teams took the whole track option. First to the first control, always a good feeling. In fact we were first to the first 6 in our loop and only stopped being first as teams started coming the other way. No nav issues - of our our at least. We came across some kids who asked for help just north of 106 in a really vague area. We told them to head north to Loop Rd, but I don't know if they took the advice.

Continued on our merry way and got all the way to the top of the map (91) before dark. The six controls after dark we all super smooth and we were back in by 8:40pm feeling okay.

Picked up the entire loop as planned, probably only 15 - 20 mins slower than anticipated.

Orienteering 33:00 [1] 1.6 km (20:37 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

VE with Kate. She's making good progress, although her appreciation of the wonderful weather saw her walk straight past #7. Luckily her tail was paying attention.

Orienteering 28:57 [3] 3.1 km (9:20 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

H4 at Fred Jacoby.

Took the chicken-out option as I couldn't be bothered bush bashing through the famous Nth Ledge crap and the H4 stayed in detail more than the H3.

Good to 1. Went to the two cliffs above #2 which looked almost identical to the two in the circle, must have nearly gone straight past the control. Lost 20 - 30 seconds. Clean to 3 and 4 where I overtook a line of "experienced" H4-ers. Bush was heavy going to 5 but managed to spike it. 6 was clean and 7 too. Small error to the right of 8, landed in the clearing and couldn't see the right cliff due to vegetation in the way. Dropped lower out of 8 than intended and ended up down on the bitumen. This ended up being the best route anyway, with only the steep climb along the pipeline to finish off.

Really glad I chickened out - it was actually fun to run the shorter course.
