Orienteering 30:00 [2] 2.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 300 Red/Blue

VE with Rohan and not quite shadowing Lachlan. He disappeared and then made a wrong turn, only to get some help from Rachel Austin and then finish behind us!

M35A at Warranine Long Distance State Champs.

First starter. Nice and straight to the rocks at 1 but then didn't pick the right piece of rock at all. Fluffed around for a minute or so, fully expecting to see Tom by the time I found the right boondie. Clean enough into 2 and 3 although slowly through the green crap.

After that it really opened up and I think I was fairly clean for all of it. Craig zoomed past around 7 and then I was also trailing Rachel most of the way to 8. We pretty much hit 8 at the same time, both huffing and puffing after the long leg.

I think all of my decisions after that were good and it would seem that I eventually managed to claw my way into the lead. It's got to be the strangest set of splits I've seen - everyone of the six of us was in the lead at some stage and barely seconds separating us at the end. Glad I kept running!

Orienteering race 44:50 [5] 5.61 km (8:00 / km) +125m 7:12 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 300 Red/Blue

H1 at Warranine Brook Middle Distance Champs.

Bit later to the start than hoped but only a few minutes in it. Started very cautiously, figuring that it could all go pear shaped in that first group of controls. Hit the first 5 quite cleanly, if a little slowly. Took the left hand fence run to 6 which seemed the better option. A few elephant trails in some areas meant the late start had a bit of help.

Started feeling like the concentration might be wavering into 10, but hit that cleanly too. Smashed up to 12 and then map in pocket up to 13 as I had seen it on the way to 10. From there on straight seemed the best option and that's pretty much what I did.

Saw Sten in the distance on the way to 17 and then at 17, although that threw me a bit as I thought he was heading out of the control when he was actually heading towards it on the other end of the cliff I was on. Complete fail on seeing the fence option to 18 and ended up checking the rocks too early.

Figured that had cost me the chance of catching Sten, but saw him at 20 and then just went balls out for the rest of the course.

Great course, enjoyed it from start to finish. Thanks Juffles!
