Walking (JCC track) 8:00 [1] 0.5 mi (16:00 / mi)

Body Pump 1:00:00 [3]

I did a very short "warm up" before the body pump class. I increased the weight for most of the segments of class. It felt right, sometimes a little light, sometimes a little heavy. Each teacher has their own style and variation on the routines, which helps keep it interesting.

I'll meet with Eke next week. Today is the anniversary of my 30 day plan. Congratulations to me.

Kettle Bells 1:00:00 [4]

Karate Chi 45:00 [3]

I started my afternoon off with a one mile warm up on the bike, and beat my best time by about five seconds. I had 15 minutes to chase dragons before class, and I realized how tired I was. I just didn't have my usual energy. Then I went to my first Karate Chi class.

I was surprised at how difficult the KC class was. Balance, strength, movement, poses...it went along at a pretty quick and persistant pace. It was a great workout, just not today. Then kettlebells.

I'm getting the hang of the kettlebells, but I think mostly because I'm only using a ten pound weight. I see people really struggling with bigger kettlebells, but they can't do the exercises correctly. This is a really challenging workout. And I was tired. But I hung in there, and felt pretty good about how most of the exercises are improving. Some things (like push ups with a kettlebell) I just can't do right now. Maybe someday?

I'm SOO glad tomorrow is Friday.

Note
(rest day)

A faculty meeting that ran late prevented me from attending yoga. I had a really heinous afternoon at work. So I bought a cup of coffee and a cookie and fell asleep in a chair at the library. Definitely not healthy choices. But the cookie was good.

Expresso bike (Fruitdale) 17:31 [3] 4.42 mi (3:58 / mi)
ahr:136 max:147

Expresso bike (Bent Spoke) 16:49 [4] 4.01 mi (4:12 / mi)
ahr:145 max:153

Expresso bike (Redwood Dash) 5:17 [4] 1.5 mi (3:31 / mi)
ahr:154 max:161

Expresso bike (Proving Grounds) 15:00 [3] 3.97 mi (3:47 / mi)
ahr:131 max:150

Inauguration Day! I decided to celebrate with an Expresso-thon. I've been working my way through the laps since they erased all last season's results. I beat my Bent Spoke time by almost 10 minutes, and Redwood Dash by 15 seconds. I was really tired after three laps, but spent 15 minutes chasing dragons (44898). It's interesting how my times have improved with all the other training I've been doing. I haven't been concentrating on the laps for over a month.

ROC results said I placed 3rd in both Ski-O courses, despite what the paper said. I'm happy with that...great results for a first event. People were excited to see my picture in the paper.

Note

My picture was on the front of the local section this morning, tangled up in tree branches, having just accomplished navigating a slope, stopping at the control, juggling the punch card and staying upright.

I came in second on Yellow (!) and third on White.

Body Pump 1:00:00 [3]

Last day of my long weekend. It was a toss up between snowshoeing and getting a few things done. I sure wish I had snowshoed!

I think I can add some more weight in Body Pump.

My body looks different. This is the last week of the 30 day plan.

XC Skiing race (Mendon Ski-O Yellow) 1:08:20 [4] *** 4.5 km (15:11 / km)

My inaugural Ski-O! Yes, I can!! I finally practiced enough skiing to feel confident enough to do a ski-O. In the past I was always happy when there was no snow and ski-o had to be done on foot. I intended to do a White course, but decided I was up to doing the Yellow. I had so much fun I went back out on the White. The conditions were perfect and I only had one major fall. I did remove the skiis for one slippery, steep uphill climb and took one steep downhill sitting on the skiis. It really would have been easier to just take the hill and fall at the bottom. (or not??) I spent some time on the White helping another skier, but I would hope someone would help me if I needed it.

I learned right away that it's tricky to manage ski poles, punch cards, gloves, and controls while staying upright. But I had a wonderful time and now a new door has opened for me. Looking forward to Webster Park.
