Running 37:03 [3] 4.2 mi (8:49 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann loop. The slow overall pace was a result of a handful of short, planned walk breaks. The running itself felt just fine, as did the legs. As long as the knee stays quiet, the plan is to get back to something approaching a normal week (with maybe an extra day off).

Walking 33:36 [3] 2.7 mi (12:27 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann short. Got out for a short test of the knee. Maybe a 50/50 mix of walking and running. Felt fine. Will try a short run tomorrow, and if that's good, it'll be time to get back after it.

Wednesday Feb 26, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Knee is feeling good. Rain kept me from walking.

Tuesday Feb 25, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Yesterday saw a major improvement. Walking up and down stairs with no ache at all. Things were a wee bit tight this morning, but will hopefully loosen up as the day progresses. If there are no setbacks, I may venture out for a 20-30 min walk tomorrow morning to see how it responds.

Monday Feb 24, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Noticeable improvement this morning has me feeling cautiously optimistic that I might be able to do some walking before week's end.

Sunday Feb 23, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Day 2 of the jacked up knee. Advil really helps. That and beer.

Saturday Feb 22, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Well, this is what happens when you cross that fine line. Right knee was a little tight last evening and it was actually mildly uncomfortable overnight. When I woke up, I knew that running was out. Think it's a pretty good case of runner's knee. Doesn't bother me walking up stairs. Down is a completely different story. Going to take the next few days off and see how it reacts. Prepared to zero out all of next week, if necessary. But much beyond that would be really problematic for Miwok. Ugh.

Running 50:29 [3] 5.8 mi (8:42 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow2 Black

Hermann-Rice short. Lovely, cool morning. Dialed it waaaay back. Super easy pace with longish walks to and from each water stop. Hip was a bit achy toward the end & I have a number of minor niggles. Just need to keep it together through tomorrow's long run and then a day off!

Thursday Feb 20, 2014 #

Running 53:22 [3] 6.5 mi (8:13 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice long. A "biometric screening" at work today meant no pre-run toast/waffle. I know it's only maybe 70 calories, but the energy wasn't high. Legs felt pretty solid nonetheless, particularly for the later part of a fairly heavy training block.

Wednesday Feb 19, 2014 #

Running 53:12 [3] 6.5 mi (8:11 / mi)
weight:167lbs shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice long. After a third night of insomnia, getting up for this one was really hard. Actually thought about turning around even once I was out the door. That said, it turned out to be a surprisingly ok effort. Tired, yes. But relatively smooth throughout & a respectable time. Tacked on the extra .1 of additional Bayou Woodland loop (which I think will be the new normal).

Climbing 14:00 [3] +270ft

Tuesday Feb 18, 2014 #

Running 53:21 [3] 6.4 mi (8:20 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice long. Funny left knee pain had me a touch worried at the very beginning, but it didn't pop up again after the first half mile. Certainly didn't push it. A couple nights of poor sleep and soupy weather also made for a desultory pace.

Climbing 7:00 [3] +135ft

Goal is to log around 1000 feet a week at the office for the next few weeks and build a bit of strength ahead of more focused hill work / quad pounding.

Monday Feb 17, 2014 #

Running 45:09 [3] 5.2 mi (8:41 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann + Braes long. Seriously considered taking a day off as I was suffering from the excesses of yesterday afternoon. Dragged myself out of bed and out the door though. Kept things super relaxed, with a bit of walking. First couple of miles sucked, but once the toxins began to sweat out, things were okay.

Sunday Feb 16, 2014 #

Running 1:04:34 [3] 6.7 mi (9:38 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow2 Black

Memorial trails. Sort of tired legs, starting too close to finishing breakfast, and 72 degree weather that hit me much harder all could have made this one a grind. But it really wasn't. Walked when I needed to and took it as it came. Just happy to be out there with nothing really hurting. Hip ache is barely there. Good week overall.

Saturday Feb 15, 2014 #

Running 2:04:33 [3] 12.2 mi (10:13 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow2 Black

Memorial trails. Nice morning to be out. Felt pretty solid overall (despite taking a couple of solid diggers). A little bonk-y toward the end, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Friday Feb 14, 2014 #

Running 52:06 [3] 6.4 mi (8:08 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice long. Achy left hip and an overall flat feeling was countered by a nice, mild weather morning. Pace felt slower and more sluggish than it actually was. Hopefully I can run through this hip strain. Not keen on taking anymore time off.

Thursday Feb 13, 2014 #

Running 47:37 [3] 5.8 mi (8:13 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice short. After yesterday's bug, wasn't sure what to expect. But, things were pretty good. Left hip got achy over the last mile and a half, so I'll need to work on it.

Wednesday Feb 12, 2014 #

Note
(sick)

Woke up in the middle of the night wanting to puke. Some sort of short-lived bug. But very limited sleep made a day off an easy decision.

Tuesday Feb 11, 2014 #

Running 52:17 [3] 6.4 mi (8:10 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice long. Really chilly morning had me dropping a few f-bombs early on. But, it also got me motivated to move right out the door. Pretty solid, consistent effort overall.

Monday Feb 10, 2014 #

Running 41:33 [3] 4.9 mi (8:29 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann + Braes. Foggy, soupy early morning run. Actually somewhat creepy. Kept the pace in check, what with dead legs early on and less than 24 hours recovery from yesterday's run. A "get 'er done" run.

Sunday Feb 9, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice long + Braes. Although yesterday was technically a zero day, it was anything but restful, with a lot of time on the feet. So, just getting through this one was an accomplishment. Legs were somewhere between leaden and just flat.

Saturday Feb 8, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

RR50 - Captaining Park Road. Not terribly restful.

Friday Feb 7, 2014 #

Running 1:22:10 [3] 8.3 mi (9:54 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295-v2

HSP. Grabbed a run before picking up supplies for Park Road at the 50. Felt really good for the first few miles, then just ran out of juice. Not eating lunch probably had something to do with it. Super chilly & drizzly - but, honestly, pretty good running weather.

Thursday Feb 6, 2014 #

Running 45:09 [3] 5.8 mi (7:47 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice short. Very chilly morning, not helped by some wicked wind early on. The cold did manage to get me moving at a good clip right off the bat in an effort to warm up. Good strong run overall. A bit of snow/sleet the last couple of miles was a nice distraction.

Wednesday Feb 5, 2014 #

Running 52:33 [3] 6.4 mi (8:13 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow2 Black

Hermann-Rice long. First time on the longer loop in quite awhile. Chilly but dry morning. Once everything warmed up, things fell into a very nice smooth rhythm with no notable aches or pains.

Tuesday Feb 4, 2014 #

Running 47:02 [3] 5.8 mi (8:07 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann-Rice short. Not a lot of pop in the legs for the first 3.5 or so. Things smoothed out somewhat after that. The accomplishment for the day was getting out of bed after hearing the raindrops outside. Wet and chilly conditions, although it beats the crap out of August.

Monday Feb 3, 2014 #

Running 40:49 [3] 4.8 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow Grey/Green

Hermann + Braes. Predictably flat after the off day & excesses of the weekend. Managed to muddle on through on a chilly morning.

Note

Saturday Feb 1, 2014 #

Running 1:38:11 [3] 10.5 mi (9:21 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow2 Black

THP. Not a lot of motivation, either for running in general or going out to THP. But, as is almost always the case, once I got moving, everything was just fine. A bit soupy & mild this morning, but the energy level was solid throughout. Stuff started to ache over the last couple of miles, but that's to be expected. Good time for a day off tomorrow.
