Running 28:23 [3] 3.0 mi (9:28 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann short. Horrible. Shin killed from the get-go. Afraid I won't be able to run through it, so it's back on the shelf for a while. This is getting so frustrating, especially since the near-chronic ab/hip issues are finally resolved. Going to take a serious chunk of time off - probably until the beginning of June and let things quiet down and heal. Will work on core (and maybe some upper body), get out on the bike in a couple of weeks, and try to overhaul my diet & eat a lower on the food chain. Here's to sleeping in on Saturday morning's for a while.

Running 34:57 [3] 3.4 mi (10:17 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Mid-morning trails. Another test of the shin. It was okay - there but not much of an issue. Legs felt a bit livelier today. Lots of folks on the trails on a sunny Good Friday. Off tomorrow. Will get back at it on Sunday.

Running 28:35 [3] 2.8 mi (10:13 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Short after-work trails to test the shin. Not terrible. Some soreness, but it never got above a nuisance. Legs were a bit dead from inactivity. Warm and humid - like July in April. Wonderful.

Running 54:35 [3] 5.5 mi (9:55 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Saturday trails at Huntsville. This was a "sneak away for a quick run" run while working the TREX aid station at Hog's Hunt. Very enjoyable little run. Shared the trail with the racers for maybe 15 minutes (always kind of an odd feeling) before curiosity pulled me off the course and along a considerable section of fire road-width trail being constructed roughly along the perimeter of the park (big-time construction - dozers, etc). I could never really get my bearings, so it's hard to say where the trail went, but I ran for a solid 15 minutes out before turning around & couldn't see the end. Intriguing, for sure, as it was a pleasantly hilly route (wherever it went).

Running 30:25 [3] 3.5 mi (8:41 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis #2

Rice loop plus. Rare late-evening run. Tried to keep the pace honest for a good chunk of the run between slow warm up and cool down sections. Legs felt fine, but the left shin was acting up.

Running 54:51 [3] 6.0 mi (9:09 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

After-work trails with Chris. One of the best short trail runs I've had in a long time. Nothing hurt - not the knee, the hip, the shin. And the legs felt pretty solid. A conservative but steady pace out Endless loop and Green to Crestwood, then a solid (even somewhat chippy) return for a 2 minute negative split. Warm but dry weather - just an excellent run.

Running 43:51 [3] 4.5 mi (9:45 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

After-work trails. Was a little unsure heading into this one because I screwed up my back over the weekend, but it wasn't feeling too stiff when I started & proceeded to loosen up completely soon thereafter. Nice run overall - steady and controlled. Warm but breezy and dry - really a gorgeous early evening for a run.

Note
(rest day)

Sore back and a lot of stuff to deal with = off day.

Saturday Apr 9, 2011 #

Running 1:37:54 [3] 9.5 mi (10:18 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Saturday trails with TREX. Tried to keep the pace honest as much as possible. Running pace probably a bit faster, as there were a number of stops to let the group catch back up. Nice workout & enjoyable company.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3] 8.5 mi (7:04 / mi)

Nice bike ride with Rebecca. Hermann Park, Rice University, some of the adjoining neighborhood, with an awesome stop at Berripop. Took it easy some of the time, and pushed a little bit other times. Wicked wind on the return trip had the legs burning.

Running 31:28 [3] 3.2 mi (9:50 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Lunchtime trails. Short run to make up for yesterday's laziness. Very warm out - summer is knocking on the door. Legs felt okay, but the shin was talking to me much of the run. Otherwise, uneventful.

Wednesday Apr 6, 2011 #

Running 48:11 [3] 5.0 mi (9:38 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Afternoon trails with Chris. Stupid-ass shin hurt much of the way (obviously the three days off did nothing except make me cranky), but otherwise the run was great. Warm, but not uncomfortable, and a solid pace overall.

Running 1:51:03 [3] 8.5 mi (13:04 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Saturday trails with HTREX. Very laid-back pace. Mariela did 8/2s, and the running part of that wasn't particularly fast. But I think that's exactly the sort of run I wanted this morning. Very humid, sweaty, but pleasant run overall.
