Terry Hershey with Chris. Very controlled run on a mix of bike path and trails. Mixed in some short walk breaks to stay within myself - really didn't feel like blowing up in the heat. As a result, felt pretty good the entire time.

Hermann-Rice long. Not fun. At all. Stupid, brutal, sledgehammer heat. Managed ok for the first 4 miles. After that, had to switch to survival mode - slowed down, stopped at every water fountain, even walked a bit. Oy.

Saturday trails with TREX group. It was the Trail 101 run, so it was all 8/2s and very, very mellow. Trails are in sad shape - where they're not bulldozed, they're overgrown with invasives (nice work MPC). Still, a nice, low-impact change of pace.

Braes-Hermann short. 3/4 mile warm up, 1/2 mile cool down, with 4 pickups in between at maybe 85%. A typical effort in this heat is tough enough, but pushing the pace made me feel a little quesy afterwards.

Up and down NE ridge. So great to be back up in the Sawatch! Snow on the route was much more manageable than I had anticipated, which got me really excited for all the great running to be done this summer. Windshirt was sufficient on the summit. . . . Oh, wait, that's TK's running life. Mine: Around the park and back. Not really all that great! Humidity on the route was unmanageable, which got me really dreading the rest of the summer. No shirt was insufficient. Middle 3 miles consisted of 5 min. pick ups (maybe 7:20-7:25 pace) with 1-min cool down between each. Not a brutal pace or anything, but definitely not "all-day" pace either.

Hermann-Rice short. By the time I got out the door - 9:00 - it was already ghastly hot. So I dialed it back and focused on a sustainable pace for the conditions. Managed just fine. Certainly wasn't a comfortable run, but I never flirted with a heat bonk either.

Braes/Hermann-Rice long/Braes. Work crap tomorrow necessitated pushing the "long" run up a day. Not a bad thing since the weather this morning was pretty ok - a little cooler & less humid. Reflected in the run, which was really solid start to finish.

Hermann/Braes. Half mile or so of warm up and another half mile of cool down with the middle 3 speed play. Pick ups of various lengths and intensities. No real structure, but it worked me over pretty good.
