Running 1:09:37 [3] 8.0 mi (8:42 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann-Rice long with Village and Braes Bayou loop additions. Felt pretty decent, so decided to push it out a bit longer. Last mile or so started to get kinda ragged, but overall a pretty solid run. Good finish to a solid month. Got out there 23 out of 31 days; 171 miles (approx. 38 miles per week); no significant down time because of injuries. Another longish run would have been ideal, but I feel positioned for a strong September peak before Palo Duro.

Running 1:04:36 [3] 7.25 mi (8:55 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann-Rice long + Braes Bayou short loop. Stupifyingly hot and humid this morning. Possibly a top-5 worst weather morning. But slowed down and managed the conditions okay and even had enough left to tack on a bonus mile.

Running 2:50:00 [3] 14.5 mi (11:43 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Saturday trails. Started with Chris early and did a couple loops around Lieberman before meeting TREX at 7. Good group, nice run overall. A lower mileage week, but probably not a bad thing.

Friday Aug 27, 2010 #

Running 50:52 [3] 6.2 mi (8:12 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann-Rice long. After a very sluggish start, the cooler morning (a heat index 15 degrees less than the last few weeks) began to work its magic. I think some of my sweat may even have evaporated. Pushed pretty hard the last couple of miles to make this one of the quicker times of the year on this route.

Thursday Aug 26, 2010 #

Running 30:24 [3] 3.2 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Afternoon trails. Hot, but somewhat drier and milder. In any case, it felt far less miserable than the last few weeks. Okay little jaunt, but I had that odd feeling that I get every so often (usually after an off day or two) that the legs are disconnected from the body. Not dead-legged, but as if the legs weren't completely there. Everything else was fine.

Note
(rest day)

Just no time to get out today, so it becomes a rest day.

Tuesday Aug 24, 2010 #

Running 53:47 [3] 6.2 mi (8:40 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann-Rice long. Started off sort of blah and achy (esp in the hip/ab area). Never really felt great, but it wasn't a terrible morning either. Got the miles in.

Monday Aug 23, 2010 #

Running 50:00 [3] 5.75 mi (8:42 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Crazy, disjointed, but not-at-all unpleasant Kenyan Way guest run with Chris and Misty. Ran a nice slow 1.5-ish from their place to the KW meeting place. Lightning started to flash & very soon the rain came down. Did another maybe mile of "warm up" before taking cover under an overpass so as to not get fried by lightning. Once things "cleared up" a little, we did maybe another two miles at a little harder pace. Then another 1.5 or so back to home. The time is complete guess.

Running 4:18:50 [3] 20.0 mi (12:56 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Huntsville SP - RR100 loop. Horrendously hot. Cooked by mile 12. Miles 12-16 were nearly 100% death march - ran maybe a mile total. Rallied a bit after hitting the Igloo and some cold treats at mile 16. Still, was totally wasted by the end. Sort of disappointing, but it was a ridiculously hot day, so the expectations were probably a little unrealistic. The Adizeros were great on the trail though.

Walking 48:50 [3] 3.3 mi (14:48 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Friday walk - Hermann Park.

Thursday Aug 19, 2010 #

Running 46:39 [3] 5.5 mi (8:29 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann-Rice short. Muggy as hell. Left knee still a bit sore & a little leg weary overall. A typical slog. Good Lord, this summer has been rough.

Running 37:07 [3] 3.7 mi (10:02 / mi)
shoes: NB MT790(2)

After work trails. Overcast skies took the edge off the heat. Right foot started to hurt a couple miles in. Going to have to shelf the 790s until it heals - just not enough protection.

Wednesday Aug 18, 2010 #

Running 1:00:12 [3] 6.0 mi (10:02 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Late-afternoon trails - Green / Endless Loop. Knees (esp left) still pretty sore from Tuesday's Man v. Concrete. Things loosened up okay though. 28:30 to Crestwood. Pulled back on the return to conserve for the next morning. Hot, but managed to stay within myself.

Tuesday Aug 17, 2010 #

Running 58:42 [3] 6.9 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann - Rice long + Village. Decided to tack on an extra .7 this morning with a jaunt through the Village. Unfortunately, the Village is 100% concrete, and when you catch a toe on an uneven bit of sidewalk (like I did) there's nothing to cushion the fall. Kissed the pavement. Hard. All scraped to hell. But other than leaving 10% of my skin on Rice, the run was strong. The time includes the 30 seconds or so while I lay bleeding on the sidewalk...

Monday Aug 16, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

Got half a block before the foot said "what the hell you think you're doing?" Obviously this needs another day or two. Great.

Saturday Aug 14, 2010 #

Running 1:45:00 [3] 8.0 mi (13:07 / mi)
shoes: NB MT790(3)

Saturday trails. Ick. Slow pace for the first hour, then a little more than 1/2 way down Green, my right foot behind the middle toe began to hurt terribly. Like a really bad bruise. Not the first time this has happened, but among the worst. Forced to turn around and walk it back. Oh, and it was also ridiculously hot. So, crappy Saturday run & pretty pathetic week. Hopefully a day off will help - get back after it Monday.

Friday Aug 13, 2010 #

Walking 47:27 [3] 3.2 mi (14:50 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyperspeed

Relax (but hot) late-afternoon walk through Hermann Park

Thursday Aug 12, 2010 #

Running 52:27 [3] 6.2 mi (8:28 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann - Rice long. Felt okay - not terrible / not great. But when it was over and I stopped the watch, realized that the pace was pretty honest throughout.

Wednesday Aug 11, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Just couldn't bring myself to run when the heat index was 112. Zero day.

Tuesday Aug 10, 2010 #

Running 46:11 [3] 5.5 mi (8:24 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann - Rice short. Felt really strong for just a normal morning run; that this was a p.m./a.m. back-to-back run made it even better. No complaints at all (other than the nasty heat).

Running 31:16 [3] 3.2 mi (9:46 / mi)
shoes: NB MT790(3)

After work trails. Took it out a bit too fast on yellow and orange and paid the piper by the time I hit blue. Radiator totally overheated and had the run been even 5 minutes longer, the wheels would have come off altogether. The heat - 'hors categorie', dangerous stuff.

Monday Aug 9, 2010 #

Running 58:48 [3] 6.0 mi (9:48 / mi)
shoes: NB MT790(3)

After work trails with Chris. What is there to say about the heat anymore? It was, well, something. Run wasn't too bad. Pushed the envelope a couple of times, but never went into full heat bonk. Prednisone may or may not be helping my hearing, but it definitely helped the ab, which for maybe the first time in many months did not bother me AT ALL. Wow. For that alone, it was a good run.

Saturday Aug 7, 2010 #

Running 2:32:00 [3] 13.0 mi (11:42 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Two sucky loops around the park with Chris followed by some very lazy-paced trails with the group. Felt crummy for the first hour, then not so terrible on the trails.

Friday Aug 6, 2010 #

Walking 43:22 [3] 3.0 mi (14:27 / mi)
shoes: Asics Hyperspeed

Friday morning walk.

Thursday Aug 5, 2010 #

Running 48:06 [3] 5.5 mi (8:45 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann - Rice short. Started out slow and stayed that way. Felt okay, but it was clear early on that there was no second gear. So, I contented myself with some hot, languid junk miles. Might get out after work for half an hour on the trails. Then again, might not.

Wednesday Aug 4, 2010 #

Running 56:04 [3] 6.2 mi (9:03 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann - Rice long. Just when you start to think you're making some progress, summer in Houston slaps your ass back down. Horrid run. I got the miles - pretty much all that can be said about this one.

Tuesday Aug 3, 2010 #

Running 46:22 [3] 5.5 mi (8:26 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann - Rice short. Hot and nasty morning. Took a mile or so to fall into it, but once things shook out, it turned into a very solid run. Feel like I've turned a corner of sorts. Time to push the mileage / effort up a notch.

Running 30:22 [3] 3.0 mi (10:07 / mi)
shoes: NB MT790(3)

Double up day with some after-work trails. Glad I wasn't running for long because the heat and humidity were otherworldly, like Venus or something.

Monday Aug 2, 2010 #

Running 52:38 [3] 6.2 mi (8:29 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Aegis

Hermann - Rice long. Just a really solid run all the way around. Definitely feeling much more acclimated to the heat (finally). Able to sustain a decent effort better and cooling off / recovering faster.
