Saturday Dec 31, 2011 #

Running 1:34:24 [3] 9.0 mi (10:29 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Saturday trails with TREX. Good group - a little fast at the front, so I fell back on the second half of the run. Soupy, humid morning - sapped the energy over the last few miles, but all in all a solid Saturday run and a positive end to 2011 (from a running perspective - good riddance).

Friday Dec 30, 2011 #

Running 38:25 [3] 3.75 mi (10:15 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara #2

Lunchtime trail run. Lovely, mild day. Everything felt a little heavy, possibly because I hadn't eaten much and was starving even before I ran. Still, a good little run to test the ankle (which is pretty much fine).

Wednesday Dec 28, 2011 #

Running 53:26 [3] 6.0 mi (8:54 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 295

Late afternoon trails. Endless/Green/Endless with Chris and Thomas. Despite rolling my ankle half a mile in, this was a very solid run. Felt really strong throughout and set a chippy pace. Good company and lovely, mild weather certainly didn't hurt.

Tuesday Dec 27, 2011 #

Running 32:29 [3] 4.0 mi (8:07 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara #2

Hermann loop. Lovely late-afternoon/early evening. Maintained a solid pace throughout while trying to find a sense of rhythm and lightness on my feet. Elusive. Felt strong but not smooth. Hopefully the later will come eventually.

Monday Dec 26, 2011 #

Running 1:00:22 [3] 7.1 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara #2

Hermann-Rice long plus. Tried a variant figure-8 loop on this one. Body felt heavy (which after yesterday's gluttony is understandable), but I was able to keep it pretty steady the whole way. Nothing much to say about this one other than it's a few more miles in the books.

Note
(rest day)

Epic day of unhealthy eating. Ugh.

Saturday Dec 24, 2011 #

Running 57:19 [3] 5.25 mi (10:55 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Saturday trails with TREX. The guys up front were running a bit too fast for my Christmas-eve liking. Probably should have stayed out longer, but laziness won out.

Friday Dec 23, 2011 #

Running 33:06 [3] 4.0 mi (8:17 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara #2

Hermann new loop. Tried a variation of the standard loop - sort of a figure 8 that adds another .8 mile. Felt pretty solid overall.

Wednesday Dec 21, 2011 #

Running 51:37 [3] 5.5 mi (9:23 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Afternoon trails. Green/Endless/Green. Another nice run. Felt good - hit the gate at Crestwood in a surprisingly relaxed-feeling 26:45 and put it on cruise control on the way back.

Tuesday Dec 20, 2011 #

Running 23:58 [3] 3.2 mi (7:29 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara #2

Hermann loop. Pushed very hard the entire way to hit sub-24:00. Just nipped it!

Sunday Dec 18, 2011 #

Running 53:11 [3] 6.0 mi (8:52 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara #2

Trails. Green/Endless Loop out and back. Really solid run. Hit Crestwood in 26:16 and if you don't count a short walk after the turnaround, ran pretty close to the same split on the return. Among the best times I've recorded on this route.

Saturday Dec 17, 2011 #

Running 1:38:51 [3] 8.5 mi (11:38 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Saturday trails with TREX. A great group run. Perfect conditions - cool, soft but not muddy trails, and gorgeous fall foliage (or as gorgeous as it gets in Houston). Everything felt good and it was tempting to overdo it, but I kept it close to my 1.5 hour goal.

Thursday Dec 15, 2011 #

Running 25:23 [3] 3.2 mi (7:56 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara #2

Hermann loop. Warm, soupy morning. Legs felt pretty good - strong, if not particularly light. A small brick in the foundation. Think I'll try to string a few days in a row now that the calf isn't an issue (knock on wood).

Tuesday Dec 13, 2011 #

Running 25:45 [3] 3.2 mi (8:03 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara #2

Hermann loop. Calf test #2. Passed again. Miwok is now the official goal race, so this is sort of an official start to Miwok training. A long way to go as everything felt stiff (likely from some tiring car travel and poor sleep).

Sunday Dec 11, 2011 #

Running 30:52 [3] 3.0 mi (10:17 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Short run on the trails to test the calf. It passed. Not much else to say about the run otherwise. Legs were heavy after the time off. Going to go short every other day this week until I'm sure the calf is healed.

Thursday Dec 1, 2011 #

Running 1:04:00 [3] 5.5 mi (11:38 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Late-afternoon trails. Endless/Green out & back. Or at least that's what it was supposed to be. Made it to gate at Crestwood in a chipper 26:45, even with a nagging tight right calf that wasn't loosening up. Should have listened to my body better because a couple of minutes after the turnaround the calf spasmed / strained pretty significantly & it was a long hobble back to the car. And just like that, Bandera is history. Simply not enough time or depth in my training to absorb what is sure to be a 3-week recovery. Bummer. Big bummer.
