Running 47:01 [3] 5.9 mi (7:58 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice short. The first of the shirtless mornings. Not a bad run all in all.

Monday Mar 30, 2015 #

(rest day)

Sunday Mar 29, 2015 #

Running 1:00:59 [3] 7.1 mi (8:35 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice long + Braes. Nice mid-morning run. Quintessentially Spring day. Ton of people out and about - the park was about as packed as I've ever seen. Felt pretty strong throughout. First week in quite some time where it feels like actual training.

Saturday Mar 28, 2015 #

Running 1:48:45 [3] 9.8 mi (11:06 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureGrit3

HSP. Gorgeous spring morning. Felt good the entire time and got to enjoy 1.6 miles of really sweet new singletrack (thanks GHORBA). If that small section is any indication, the other 11 miles or so is going to be a fantastic addition. The new PureGrits were a success as well.

Friday Mar 27, 2015 #

Running 36:21 [3] 4.5 mi (8:05 / mi)
shoes: Altra Instinct 3.0

Hermann. Because the plan is for 6 consecutive days of running, this one was short and relaxed. Nippy but nice morning.

Thursday Mar 26, 2015 #

Running 53:07 [3] 6.5 mi (8:10 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice long. A sluggish start gave way to a really nice, fluid middle 2 miles, followed by a soaking rain to finish things off. A few miles in the rain is always a hoot.

Wednesday Mar 25, 2015 #

Running 46:29 [3] 5.9 mi (7:53 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice short. Tried to avoid yesterday's lollygagging pace. Things continue to come around as this one felt a bit more fluid.

Tuesday Mar 24, 2015 #

Running 53:42 [3] 6.5 mi (8:16 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice long. Lovely, cool spring morning. Despite the lackluster pace, this one felt pretty solid. The calf/knee thing seems to be fading away and the legs were willing, if not especially fluid. Things are coming around slowly.

Monday Mar 23, 2015 #

Note
(rest day)

Planned zero. Walked for a mile or so in the evening.

Sunday Mar 22, 2015 #

Running 52:52 [3] 6.5 mi (8:08 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice long. Late morning slog. Not really terrible. Legs felt pretty decent, but I really only had one gear. Just need to keep working.

Saturday Mar 21, 2015 #

Running 35:37 [3] 4.5 mi (7:55 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann. Morning run was rained out, so a "better than nothing" effort later in the day.

Friday Mar 20, 2015 #

Running 47:01 [3] 5.9 mi (7:58 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice short. Another mild morning. Left calf was tight getting out of bed, but wasn't too much of an issue on the run itself. Definitely not in tip top shape...

Thursday Mar 19, 2015 #

Running 47:19 [3] 5.9 mi (8:01 / mi)
shoes: Altra Instinct 3.0

Hermann-Rice short. Back out there amongst the auto exhaust, Med Center sirens, homeless, and general urban shitscape. Mild morning, but not in an uncomfortable way. Relatively solid effort, although the left calf (of course) tightened up considerably post-run.

Tuesday Mar 17, 2015 #

Hiking 1:30:00 [3] 4.2 mi (21:26 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295-v2

HCSNA. From the cabin over to Sky Island and back around. The flats were somewhat muddy (although not Bandera muddy), but the rocky ups and downs were in fine shape. Last mile and a half or so was in a steady, light rain.

Monday Mar 16, 2015 #

Running 57:36 [3] 5.0 mi (11:31 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295-v2

HCSNA. From the cabin, up and over Lucky Peak, before lollipopping back around to the cabin. Ran fine on the runnable stuff, but had no problem slowing to a hike when I felt like it. A really nice change of scenery.

Saturday Mar 14, 2015 #

Running 54:05 [3] 6.5 mi (8:19 / mi)
shoes: Altra Instinct 3.0

Hermann-Rice long. Slept in a bit, which was nice. The sun was out! The sun was out! Nice morning. Running pace was fine, but a little bit of "Saturday walking" tempered the overall time. Still adjusting to the Altras - they're kind of unforgiving when it comes to sloppy form, which is a good thing.

Friday Mar 13, 2015 #

Running 48:39 [3] 5.9 mi (8:15 / mi)
shoes: Altra Instinct 3.0

Hermann-Rice short. Total slop-fest. Wasted a bunch of time trying to avoid puddles around Rice until I realized they were unavoidable. Enough of the wet already. The new Altras were nice - surprisingly different ride than the PureFlows. The zero-drop was super noticeable and while fairly cushioned, the midsole material is relatively firm. Because it's so light, the shoe has a much more minimalist feel than I was expecting. The plan is to go roughly 50/50 Brooks/Altra during the week.

Thursday Mar 12, 2015 #

Note
(rest day)

Rain out. Day off isn't terrible, as I'd like to run for the next 5 days in row if possible.

Wednesday Mar 11, 2015 #

Running 53:47 [3] 6.5 mi (8:16 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice long. Overall a decent run, but I definitely need to find the will to push a bit harder again, as the pace was pretty meh.

Walking 29:48 [3] 1.7 mi (17:32 / mi)

Tuesday Mar 10, 2015 #

Running 36:40 [3] 4.5 mi (8:09 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann. Last-minute request from the spouse to take the little one to school shortened my available run time. Sluggish first half, but fine by the end.

Walking 26:23 [3] 1.5 mi (17:35 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Monday Mar 9, 2015 #

Note
(rest day)

Planned zero, which is good because the weather sucks.

Walking 36:40 [3] 2.0 mi (18:20 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Dreadmill. While I don't want to run on the thing that much, a couple miles of relaxed walking in the evening is pretty ok.

Sunday Mar 8, 2015 #

Running 1:10:14 [3] 7.4 mi (9:29 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Dreadmill. Yes, the dreadmill. Light rain this morning left me in a motivational crisis. Just didn't feel like doing anything. Rain turned steady as the morning became afternoon & I had pretty much written it off as a zero. Then I talked myself into "30 mins on the treadmill - better than nothing." The pace is deceiving, as the first half mile was really slow warm up & get acquainted time. After that the pace was solid, with some incline play and decent pick ups to keep the mind occupied. Still hate the thing, but I suppose it's good to have around...

Saturday Mar 7, 2015 #

Running 1:06:51 [3] 7.6 mi (8:48 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Sabine from Chris's. Typical Saturday morning blah for the first few miles, but after the turn at Sabine things started to feel really solid.

Friday Mar 6, 2015 #

Running 52:26 [3] 6.5 mi (8:04 / mi)
shoes: Altra Olympus

Hermann-Rice long. Very chilly morning, especially for March. Started a little later, and the fact that the sun was up helped. Felt fine in general. Definitely lose at least 10-15 sec/mile in the clown shoes, but they are pretty comfy.

Thursday Mar 5, 2015 #

Note
(rest day)

Morning run was rained out, so the plan was to get out after work. But when I got home I decided to wash my car instead. Because I'm a pussy. And my car was really, really dirty.

Wednesday Mar 4, 2015 #

Running 36:21 [3] 4.4 mi (8:16 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann. Other than feeling lethargic, fat, and slow the entire run, it was dandy. Pretty sure I was still feeling the effects of a late-ish, too-large lunch. File this one under "Better than nothing."

Tuesday Mar 3, 2015 #

Running 46:34 [3] 5.9 mi (7:54 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice short. After a couple of sub-par nights of sleep, things weren't feeling all that spry. But the recent aches and pains are continuing to improve. Worked hard the last 1.5 to get in under 47:00.

Sunday Mar 1, 2015 #

Running 46:57 [3] 5.9 mi (7:57 / mi)
shoes: PureFlow3 - DayGlo

Hermann-Rice short. Good run on a mild, wet morning. While the stride didn't feel especially fluid, everything felt relatively strong.
