Run race 42:13 [3] 5.0 mi (8:27 / mi)
shoes: Puma Trailfox

Run the Farm @ Muscoot Farm in Katonah, NY
Plan was to start out easy and move up between hill 1 & 2 and then really let it fly after hill 2, as it is mostly downhill from there.

Reality: probably started out too quick, although it was single track pretty quickly and it was hard to pass with leaves so it wasn't a total mistake. Biggest problem was I went into debt on hill 1 and caught a diaphragm cramp about 15 minutes in. When I should I have been rolling I was recovering. This would have been a good spot to be moving as it opened up to double track. Hill 2 was a beast - everyone around me hiked, and I did the same. Again recovery took some time, but then I got a nice boost on the downhill. Thought I was closer than I was, but I still had a short grass hill, that we came down around mile 1 and I was cooked. Managed to maintain it on the home straight.

Overall a fun experience. Race course was great: hills, bit of mud, single track, tons of leaves covering deadly ankle turning rocks and branches. The beast of a hill was just brutal and it makes me want to run repeats on Hook once a week. In all I've done 26 runs since July 1st, 5 in July, 11 in sept, 5 in oct (all coming since oct 11th) so to talk about being fit would be laughable. But if I can disciplined enough to take care of my flexibility and begin to work on my strength I'll be somewhere come spring.

Above all, this is fodder to keep running. The legs didn't act up, although they are tight now, and the knees are achy. I think lifting, yoga and cross training are going to be the way to go this winter.

Started controlled and built over time. Some soreness, most worried about right Achilles, but I think I'll be fine for Sunday. Yoga/stretch tomorrow.
