Spinning - 50% Canterbury and 50% Castle Vale - both from 2012. Just shows what a bad job you can make of otherwise good (Canterbury) or excellent (Castle Vale) areas! Poor planning in general, ok, a few good legs, but far too, far and far between. Much dead running, even in CV where planning didn't play to the superb character of the all! Hope CV is better in 2017!
Cheeky 10 minute warm-down spin - Kings Hedges, North Cambridge - now that's better!

Spinning - Crewe - 2015. First half of MSV course Very Good - up to control 18 of 30, I guess that was the best part of the area (the northern half of the map). 2nd half a bit disappointing - fairly straight-forward without any difficult choices to make. This was predominantly in the southern half of the map. The middle 1/3rd of the map looked quite just wasn't utilised on this course. Quite amusing also, that in the last few controls I'd have run through the finish 3 times! :) - * rider - guilty as anyone I know I over-planned the Hull Urban in 2015 making the courses too long for each age class trying to cram in as much as possible, whereas sticking to the "norm" would probably have produced far better courses. In my defence I was heavily controlled - including a leg destroying timed out crossing which wasn't necessary from the Marina area into Victoria Dock Village - and I'd got a really great 2km leg crossing that part of the map :(
Note - cheeky virtual Sprint training on final 10 minute warm down spin - Cambridge Science Park from this year - actually shows what's possible - not too technical an area, but some clever planning where options included, on several occasions, a fast / easier but longer route against a shorter / trickier option.......nice!

50% Jennyfields (Harrogate) - 2014 / 50% Halifax - the better UKOL event with the Town Centre - 2013 - I'd say both #YorkshireUrbanClassics.
Why haven't we been back to Jennyfield - loads of potential!..... and why was the last Halifax event Halifax South, without the great bit of the original map with the Town Centre on it :(
Also - I've noted - Mike Cope makes good maps and plans good Urban courses. Rich Robinson plans great Urban courses, whilst Richard Payne makes excellent ISSOM maps, even at 1:5,000 .......'nuff said! :)
