to control #11 a mixed bag, mostly "ok" but really struggling with any fine detail on the 1:5,000 map. Ran 3.47km in 17:33 for 5:04 mpk
In particular steps and narrow passages caused lots of frustration both on the map and in the terrain.
Narrow passages tended to be very narrow and easy to miss / overshoot, which I tended to be guilty of on a number of occasions.
I really can't explain why, but on a very simple to execute leg #11-#12 I had a total melt down. Don't know why which makes it even more frustrating and annoying than it otherwise ought to be!
Anyway, decided to cut my losses and once I relocated thought I'd start again and re-run a few legs previous to that one, the most convenient starting point being #8 ....
so that's what I did - jogged to #8 and re-started my "race"....
Part 1 :
#1-#2 lost 30 seconds - couldn't find small path off N-S road directly W. of #2 had to double back and go via small car park.
That's about it!....***BUT***...

This has been bugging me all week - so I checked on Google Street View - there isn't a path as shown on the map - I didn't make it up, there's a hedge in front of a fence where there should be a path - shown on the map - it isn't there in reality!

Where's the path then?

Part 2 from control #8 - still wasn't brilliant re-running #8 through to #11 - again, taking alternative (safer) routes still struggled with map detail / the generally mapping of the terrain.
From #11 ran as best I could as though I'd continued without the mini-break but obviously my speed / endurance suffered from the extra distance I'd run. The area was quite physical too with a fair bit of climb, combined with the sun making an appearance it seemed to slow me down more than it perhaps ought to have :(
At least I can do some sort of meaningful analysis by splitting out my GPS trace for part 1 and part 2....to follow....
#13-#14 lost 1 minute on R.C. - a tad disappointing!

I've tried to work out from the splits - for what it's worth! - but they make little or no sense - calculating manually I got :
me on 34:08 / Adrian on 34:32 and Roger on 34:39 - still makes no sense!!....
additional(!)....when you remove the voided splits the results are "correct" (33:58 / 34:08 / 34:39) which suggests my maths in trying to add individual splits together is a bit rubbish! ;)
RouteGadget if nothing else this should supply endless amusement - hopefully others will input so that we can all have a good laugh! :)
