Note

Survey fail... drove to area but it was thick fog and frozen and dark, so drove home again - there's no pressure to rush the map!

steady run warm up/down 35:00 [3]

Warm up and down on roads and at track.

Track Race 11:42 [3]

3km time trial at Halden track. No flood lights - but frost on ground and reflected light from low clouds meant no head torch was fine. Heavy frost, -5C, ran in dobbs.
Started steadily and kept things pretty even throughout race. Pushed on last 600m.
splits: 0-46, 1-33, 1-35, 1-35, 1-35, 1-33, 1-29.
Pretty happy with it as a session, legs felt pretty good and managed to push harder at end. Next time I'll have to start a wee bit faster and see what I can do.

steady run warm up/down 21:00 [3]

Run to and from strength training at Gimle skole.

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

HSK strength - took it easy as planning on doing a time trial tomorrow.

Note

3 hours surveying, cold crisp day, just not sunny :(

steady run 1:40:00 [3]

Run north of Halden (we spotted a hill on a map!) with S, E and H. Lovely little track along and up ridge to summit - fire watch tower gave superb views all round. A couple of big wind farms in Sweden - almost certainly the mystery lights we saw from Høias tower 4 weeks ago.
Off ridge to north and then a couple of forested hills direct, cross a marsh and then H and I added an extra ridge to NE, caught back with S& E then a little extra loop near end. Some glorious forest and views were great. We'll be back in the future to explore some more.
Legs tired on hills but kept going - must be getting stronger with all the forest running over the past few weeks!

orienteering race 48:00 [5]

HøiasDNC, Iddefjordfjella. Middle distance race, 4.4km 135m (but ca 290 descent as start high up!)
Started a bit hesitantly but good line to 1, a bit lucky on 2 - facing along slope and spotted it. 3-8 good, then a complete brain death - long leg, pushed, parallel error and kept going, eventually relocated but 7 mins gone... Finished 4th on "Open medium" class but could have won by 3 mins and been 2nd overall behind Marie Olaussen (junior girl).
Pleased with technique in most of the race, but need to check compass more (as always!).

steady run warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Bit of jogging at carpark and then long run up track to start.

orienteering 35:00 [4]

Went on to Prestebakke for a middle distance course (Thursday HSK training). Steady start and struggled to interpret vegetation round 1, then smoother and really enjoyed most of it. Tired by end.

steady run 37:00 [3]

Steady run with S, lysløppe then back via Venås and lower tracks. Nice sunny day. Legs tired from last 3 days - surveying and night-O.

orienteering 1:00:00 [4]

Shadowing S round contour only night-O at Høias. Tough area - lots of undergrowth and vague wobbly slopes. Mostly clean technically but not chuffed at going goolie deep in one cutting between 2 hills:-) We also crossed an "uncrossable" marsh near the end - those in the know detoured about 50m to the track across it!
E went out on his own on a wee night-O course and got 7 controls, lost a lot of time on one but was pretty happy with himself. He'll be out on the contour-only soon...

Note

Surveying 3 hours, much more pleasant day and finished block of area.

steady run warm up/down 8:00 [3]

orienteering 58:00 [4]

Onsdagsnatt - Mass-start night-O, baffled courses and, most important, no controls in the forest. Every runner wears a GPS tracker. Missed my first control, realised as I was leaving it but didn't drop back down hill to mine. Own line to number 2 and then cut-off to 17 (4.5km is plenty for me!). Haven't had as much fun O-ing for a long time, great to pick off the features and spike the controls. Only bad miss was i the green near the end, relocated on a spur, then realised I was under the power line!
Pretty slow time but just really enjoyed myself with no pressure.
