OK so I had a real big think today about how I am getting on (or not as the case is) with my cycling.
I find cycling as a whole on a road bike massively uncomfortable. Comfort on a bicycle for a woman is hard to describe and in fact when I actually got to the point of literally don't know what to do today I found this blog on the internet
http://lovelybike.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/on-female... ( I really advise the guys not to read this). Cause it's a bit of a awkward subject to discuss really. Whenever I say cycling is so uncomfortable people assume I mean the seat of my bum and that I just need to 'break it in'. That is not my problem and it was comforting to see in the link above that I'm not alone.
The main cause of my pain is the fact all my weight is on the very front of my saddle this is because of the fact it's a road bike and the saddle points downwards. It seemed that my saddle didn't adjust in terms of rotation i.e. up or down. After a trip to Evans and a look at their saddle posts. Me and Gaz returned home to closer inspect my saddle post and found that once we took it to pieces you could actually adjust the angle of the saddle so we have had a play with that. Having now adjusted the saddle it is a little less painful and but there is still a lot of pressure on the front of the saddle.
For the next month I am going to try it and see if I am OK with it. I am also going to bring my old school raleigh MB back from norfolk next weekend. I have found that I don't get any of this discomfort or pain on the gym bike or on the hire bike I had in italy that I rode for over 6hours in denim shorts whereas gaz had massive discomfort. I realise a lot of it is that I need to man up but I hate cycling and so I'm just not going to get on the bike if it is going to continue to be this bad. So if after this month is over I still don't like my road bike I am going to change it for a hybrid as an upright bike may be the way forward for me as I think I'll have more confidence to go out on it around Nottingham as well - don't feel very safe or confident on my road bike. It is a shame as it such a lovely and beautiful bike but I just don't use it as all it brings me is uncomfortable exercise and that really isn't helping my tri training aims.
