Orienteering race (Julimar) 1:26:34 [4] 9.99 km (8:40 / km)
shoes: X-Talons 212

H2 course. The first half was fun, the bush was nice. I kept in contact with the map well and hit the first control spot on. Saw Craig coming by to 3 but then never saw him again. Took the road option to 6. Then crossing to the E side the bush became a lot scratchier and somewhere around 8/9 it turned to sandpaper (next time no shorts!) and my motivation dropped. This is also where I made my biggest mistake - ran down the right spur from 8 but once in the gully of pain where all the low scratchy stuff was I failed to take the right bearing going back up and ran up the wrong hill. Found a track that I concluded was unmarked and continued up a bit until a realised where I was. The rest went fairly well. Retired hurt from the sprint once I saw the map.

Muzz, Marcus, Blake, Robin, Joel and I, and Karen and Ant who started a bit earlier. It's always hard going up the Crystal Brook rd and then Welshpool Rd hill and this one was no different. We then took the slightly shortened route - the 3 ahead went the full distance. The last hill up to Kala was a pleasant kom with no one to race. Coffee at the Gooseberry hill cafe. Quite cold morning again - but more comfortable than last week with two jerseys and arm warmers.

Orienteering race (Navdash - Curtin) 23:30 [4] 4.1 km (5:44 / km)

Decided not to do any hard running on account of my calf not being ready but was nicely surprised to find that my jog was already near the fastest that I could keep contact with the map. Ricky raced past early on, Henry caught up to me at about control 6 or so, but did not make much distance thereafter, and then Sten and Fletch found me at about 14 or so and I kept up with them no problem to the end (doing a bit less nav at that stage). Enjoyable map.

Paddle from uwa to around H island. Followed a bunch of rowers all the way back. Ran into Sam and two others on the way back. Wind dropped about halfway through. Started out slow and built up the intensity throughout.
